Hylands Park is a true treasure in the heart of Essex. Set across more than 500 acres of beautifully maintained parkland, it offers a peaceful escape, a family playground, and a stage for global events — all in one. 🌳 Grounds and Gardens
From sweeping meadows to ancient woodland and tranquil lakes, the landscape at Hylands Park is a delight in every season. The wide, accessible paths are ideal for walkers, cyclists, and families with buggies. Whether you're flying a kite, walking the dog, or settling down with a picnic, the space invites you to breathe and relax. The formal gardens — especially the walled garden — are a hidden gem, showcasing colourful seasonal planting and peaceful corners. 🏛️ Hylands House
The centrepiece of the estate is Hylands House, a restored Grade II* listed mansion. Open to the public on select dates, it offers a fascinating glimpse into Regency life and the estate’s military past. The adjoining courtyard features artisan studios, a café, and visitor facilities, making it a pleasant stop during any visit. 🏕️ Scouting Legacy: The 21st World Scout Jamboree
One of Hylands Park’s proudest moments came in 2007, when it hosted the 21st World Scout Jamboree. This milestone event celebrated 100 years of Scouting and brought together around 40,000 Scouts from 158 countries under the theme “One World, One Promise.” The park was transformed into a temporary global village, filled with campfires, cultural exchange, international friendships — and even a royal visit from Prince William. For those involved, it remains an unforgettable experience and a testament to Hylands Park’s ability to bring people together on a global scale. 🎪 Events and Community
In addition to its Scouting heritage, Hylands Park is no stranger to major events. From outdoor concerts and seasonal markets to car shows and festivals like Creamfields South, it handles large crowds with ease. Despite its size, it never loses its local,...
Read moreWent last night to go and see the Enlightened lights and what a pleasure it was, was very happy with the lights. Absolutely beautiful and most definitely done an amazing job with the park. £16 per adult which is pretty pricey, if it wasn't for the price for me and my husband we may have gone again, but definitely worth going the once. NO toilets on site, however we were late, our booking was 9pm and we turned up around half pass due to weather and travelling from Ipswich. Everyone was so friendly, so lovely and so kind about us showing up late and allowed us to go round, although it was pass their going home time. They allowed us to walk round the whole display, didn't tell us to hurry up and allowed us to go round however quick we wanted and still allowed time for photos and activities along the trail.
A big shoutout to the guy in the photo, my daughter absolutely loved him, and she went up to him and asked for a photo and he didn't think twice and allowed us, so thank you to the member of staff on the walk, such a lovely guy.....
Read moreBeautiful large open space with massive veteran oak trees, wide open space for ball games and family get-togethers. They also have a fantastic large play park for the kids that looks like a castle and is all made from wood. It’s located close to the car park and toilets. Good clean toilet facilities. They also have a large pleasure garden which is well cared for with established plants, duck pond and seasonal bedding plant displays. I particularly like the cafe where you can sit inside, or they have lots of outdoor seating for dog walkers. You can get coffee and snacks, or they do really nice fancy brunch and lunch options. You can park at the other car park right next to the cafe and shops if you don’t want to walk far- it’s very close to the pleasure gardens too. I love how wide open this place is for my kids as they can run and ride their bikes and have plenty of freedom. There are also geocaches on the site of that’s...
