Hailes Quarry Park — Attraction in City of Edinburgh

What was once a quarry that the stone from it was used to build Edinburgh, is now a children's playground, with basketball hoop and goal posts, climbing wall, bike track, wildlife trail, outdoor gym, pond with walkway, fire pit and picnic area. It's a 1.2 mile walk/jog/run around the circumfrence, which is paved, part of the way. It's great for a short dog walk, too.

There's a new herb garden and a 'wee forest' which has just been freshly planted. All alongside the Union Canal. If you're lucky, you'll see bird wildlife and a barge on the canal. A walk in either direction will take you into the city centre or out to Ratho. Visit the old man of the quarry too (stone carving). This place is great for learning mountain biking, there's a small access trail near the playground. Sort of a hidden entrance that immediately goes uphill. And there is grass tracks all around the park. Be careful their usually muddy and hard to pedal in. Unfortunately this park is full of crime. I got chased by 6 teenagers on my way back from work for no reason. All wearing masks. And the trail is always being littered by beer bottles and cans which I can tell is where the antisocial behaviour is. its okay but can be bit difficult to walk about as on occasions you might meet a dog who may not be on a lead and it owner who shouts at you as if its you're fault that his dog his near you, but what ever those. there is a multi gym here open aired but some of the equipment could do with a brush up as some of the equipment is damaged. you can walk form this park all the way to the bus depot at Longstone or the opposite direction from Longstone to the union canal. but watch out for the man with the dog of the lead and if he shouts at you as if its like you're fault that his dog is near you then just give him a smile and say have a nice day to you to...
