This is completely unacceptable.

A few seconds ago I was informed that the Observatory is closed.

I asked if it was because of Covid and the lady said yes.

She also mentioned that it might open again towards the end of the year.

What a disgrace.

No one cares about covid.

How many times must we see a mandate endorsing celebrity parading maskless through a crowded public space, or a public official scrambling for his mask as soon as he realizes that the cameras are rolling?

We need the Observatory open. NOW!!

Enough is enough.

Honest, hard-working people are sick of this hypocrisy.

Open the Observatory for the...

A place to defiantly go if it's open, a good learning opportunity.

The observatory is wonderful, the crowd from the top of buildings is breathtakingly beautiful if you can get past the wind. The visitors centre is accommodating and it's extremely educational. The telescope was simply facnianting and getting a good look at it was awesome.

The only problem is that it isn't open as nearly as it should be and I was lucky enough to get a special tour of all the buildings with an employee, which highlighted many more things like star plates and old souvenirs they...

The ROE held a very interesting talk on coding and software engineering in astronomy. We learnt something of the high tech projects that people at the ROE work in at the forefront of technology. It was delivered in a relaxed and informal manner that any lay person could understand and there was practical activities writing simple code to build a working solar system on laptops which was great fun and very interesting. All this on the day before my son started his software engineering degree at Edinburgh Napier university. ROE has a get history and is well...

Despite having a visitors center and a shop, this place is rarely open. Check the opening times before visiting. Gate attendants are quite cross if you come by to have a look if it's closed (even from the outside) as you interrupt their tea when they have to get up from the guardpost. You have to stay outside the gates which unfortunately does not allow close views of the building. View from the top of the hill is nice and you get a good overlook of the city. Sadly there is much more they could do with this to make it a place for visitors.

Beautiful place for a walk with stunning views across the city but except for special events it is not possible to enter the Observatory or adjacent buildings themselves. Had the chance to visit on the annual open day and was impressed with all the activities and information for all ages

It is worth seeing if you are into astronomy and telescopes, it is truly a historic beast. Be sure to make reservations beforehand as it is not open to the public without scheduling one.
