For nature this deserves the 4 stars. However there are now so many dogs that it is hard not to trip over them as they run around doing their own thing. I like dogs but not out of control. The wild flowers are in bloom, the trees sprouting their diaphanous leaves and blossom forming on the hawthorn and other bushes. Water gushing in the burn and birds singing. BUT there's also the poo bags just left either lying around or even hanging from trees - inexplicable. Who do they expect will pick up this unsightly litter? Shame. One such bag....below.

Great green oasis. Lovely central path with walks up on banks on both sides too. Places of interest like ice house, dovecote and rangers house. Lots of birds include herons and dippers. Lovely forest with carpet of bluebells in the spring. Fast flowing stream through the middle. One place where dogs can be allowed off the lead. Now added bonus of a nice cafe at the front gate.

Coming from just a bit north of here in the city, it was refreshing to reach this area and be able to run on trails instead of roads. Loads and loads of dogs but none of which were a problem to cruise by. Not a big area but definitely a mini escape from the city and worth the jaunt to if you are out for a run or having a nice walk.

This is a lovely tranquil woodland walk in Edinburgh. There are so many possible routes to explore. This area is very popular with families, dog walkers etc.You can select easy walking routes and slightly more challenging woodland walks. From the ice cave to the cafe at the start this place is great to explore. There is a burn that meanders through the area with a few small waterfalls. I think Edinburgh has the highest percentage of green space anywhere in the UK as far as cities go and this is another beauty. Less than a few minutes from the hustle and bustle of...

Looking for a little venture to take you away from the rat race or the humdrum aspects of urban living? Ease on down here, to this tranquil oasis. Like stepping out of the wardrobe into Narnia, with its forrest of trees and birdsongs. Let your cares wash away with the sounds of a bubbling brook. The weekends and late afternoon tend to be busier with dog walkers and families. There is a cafe that offers cold and hot drinks. Parking can be an issue, as...
