Melincourt was an off chance, accidental find. After being up, Resolven for walks along the canal a few times. I did a quick Google and noticed this beautiful and impressive Waterfall on the Map. So hoped in the car and drove the several minutes to it.
There are two ways you can explore this beautiful area. One is by parking at the bottom of the falls and walking up, or you can park at the top of the falls near a grave yard and make your way over the bridge and then follow the track down through a little gate. (If you do the latter, be mindful that it's un even ground and there are some areas with no fence. So I'd advise caution with little ones and dogs.
I have only ever tackled it from above as I am trying to build my strength up and it can be a tiresome walk down and back up.
Once you navigate down the Hill side, you will be greeted by the foot path. Turn right on to it and you will make your way up to the falls. If you turn left it will take you donw to the car park. (Still a nice stroll down for afterwards if you fancy it)
There are some impressive boulders in the pool itself which on a good day you can get across too, but beware they can be slippery. You should also be able to get up and more or less behind the Falls. Though I have never done this.
There are a few places to sit and rest maybe have a bit of food before you head back and definitely some great spots for the odd Photo.
If you like a bit of a challenge then come from the top, if you don't mind a nice little walk then come from the main road as its just one fairly straight route up and back. Either way this waterfall is highly recommend as it does have an impressive height to it.
If you don't want to venture from the top, I still recommend driving up the country lane to see it from the top. There is also another trail that can be taken beside the grave yard which i have not yet explored. (There are sheep wondering so again before...

The fairly easy looping and also out and back walks that are set out from the car park are great for taking in the whole area; trails go along side the rapids that lead downstream from the waterfall, they are very powerful in the wet seasons. Beautiful walks through the woodland area. You can follow the trails to the top of the waterfall too giving a different perspective, getting a glimpse of the waterfall from the road near the cemetery and then a view from directly above the waterfall on the road bridge that crosses the water looking down at the rapids that eventually fall over the cliff edge. There is also a trail leading further above and beyond the falls too, following the rapids upstream located slightly uphill from the road bridge. September 2025 the trail that takes you next to the base of the waterfall is closed due to a large very branchy tree fallen onto the footpath blocking the trails both from the top and bottom leaving no easy or...
Β Β Β Read moreWe didn't actually make it up to the falls, which I'm sure are very lovely. This is a review purely about access.
There's a great car park with dropped kerbs on both sides. As we were pushing a chair, we were overjoyed to be able to cross with no issue as the car park is across the main road through the village. That's where the joy ended. The path up to the falls looked accessible for the chair initially, and we made it up about 30 feet before realising it was far too narrow for our pushchair width mobility aid and far too damp and slippy to carry our charge even though she's very light (a geriatric dog).
So, we didn't make it up there, and my recommendation would be; unless you are fully mobile and unencumbered by a mobility aid this is not for you. We instead entered 'Royal British Legion Aberdulais' into maps and went for a walk down the Riverside there which is mostly accessible with...
