The Picton Garden holds the National Collection of Michaelmas Daises – not the most exciting plants at first thought, but surprisingly varied and versatile plants when you put them in the hands of a great gardener. This is a Gem of Garden. I don't know what it looks like in Spring, but at this time of the year, you are snapping away with your camera to record all the wonderful colour combinations. I particularly liked the yellow and green of one of the Rudbeckias contrasting with the mauvy-blue of one of the Michaelmas Daisies – magic. I also really enjoyed the Autumn power players like the Echinaceas and sedums. Verbena bonariensis provided a deeper purple backdrop in many of the borders and there was a lovely shrubby type of what looked like a pompom Dahlia that really zinged. There is also a very nice collection of Acers – the Acer japonica 'Aureum' seemed to float and shimmer in the shade of the glade at the far end of the garden. I'm always a bit wary of sculpture in the garden, as it can look a bit pretentious sometimes – but I thought these free-falling wire sculptures were fun, and complemented the style of planting. In short I think this is a great garden to visit in the Autumn. The planting is wonderful, it's not too big, and it's fairly flat for those of us who are getting on a bit. The attached Old Court Nursery sells a whole range of Michaelmas Daisies in various shades and colours, which were reasonably priced and...

Highly recommend. Attended tender succulent workshop, which was excellent. The talk was very interesting, jam packed with extremely useful information. The practical part was inspirational and everyone from what l could see thoroughly enjoyed being creative making miniature gardens from great resources.Refreshments tea/coffee and homemade cake such a delicious bonus, gluten free too. An exceptionally high quality workshop. Gardens filled with plants which you can purchase, lots of pathways with seating. I bought a a super succulent which l have never seen elsewhere for reasonable price. Amazing hostas, succulents, ferns, peonies and much more. Can wait to return to see the Michaelmas daisies in bloom later this year, and book to attend snowdrop...

Visiting during a holiday in the area in June and fairly keen gardeners, we had to pop in and have a look around while we were here.

This is an interesting nursery and garden with an entrance fee of £5 a person to have a look round the garden. I've added a few photos and we found the variety of plants really interesting. If you are a gardener it is worthwhile visiting. A friendly word from the woman in the nursery, when we arrived too.

A good welcome and but for a long journey home and a few days before we left, we decided not to buy any plants (for once) though...

Looking for gardens to visit we saw this advertised and turned up at opening time 11.00 am. Received warm friendly greeting from staff. It's just £5 each (or 2 for 1 with Gardener's World card). Really impressed with the gardens there's so much to see we spent about 2 hours slowly taking it all in and there are several benches to sit and rest on - a great variety of plants also in the sales area including some unusual looking succulents. Prices seem quite reasonable. In case anyone is wondering there was no tearoom. Would love to come back if we're over this way again.
