If you love bird watching, this is a wonderful place to visit. Sadly, there was a height barrier at the entrance to the car park, so we were unable to get in in our van. We had to park a way away and walk there. We saw a variety of birds, including a ruddy shelduck, little ringed plovers, swifts, sand martins, a greater spotted woodpecker, and lapwings and their chicks. We were very lucky to be there at the same time as one of the wardens. He had counted 31 species that day and was very friendly, pointing out various species.

Unfortunately due to lockdown restrictions the pools side of the site was closed for safety reasons. Despite this disappointing start I was pleasantly surprised and impressed by what is called the arable field. A lovely little walk with views of the surrounding countryside including the shropshire hills. Huge range of wildlife present with sightings including various butterflies, damselflies and even a great white egret!

I was a bit confused as to where a non SOS member could walk as there were a lot of forbidden paths for us general public. The first hide was a great view point for all the birds at the pond. I eventually found a path around the pond which nearly made it the whole way around but was one way, so I had to back track. Saw a few dragonflies and butterfly's so that was pleasant.

1st hide is members only 2nd hide is public to view a feeding station which clearly has not been topped up with feed in some time. 3rd hide is good but you have to put up with grumpy old men who don't like young people. 4th hide is apparently open to the public but clearly isn't. 5th hide is about 30 mins walk from the rest, going through partly unkept overgrown paths. When getting to the hide you are greeted with dead birds, fleas, bird poo and obscured views due to foliage overgrowth. There should at least be a sign saying it is not maintained so don't bother trekking to it.

Could be a lovely place with better investment in the facilities required and...

Bear in mind that no dogs are allowed at this sanctuary - there is a 3 x 2 inch sign to tell you this, and woe betide anyone who does not scrutinise the information board as you drive in. We were just settling in for a nice walk with our dachshunds, when an old man with a three foot camera lens jumped out on us. Through gritted teeth, three times, he growled that he must ask us to leave. No reason given, just that we should have read that 3x2 inch sign as we drove in. We didn't argue, my wife and I just left thinking that the 3 foot long camera lens was probably compensating...

We visited here briefly. We were looking for a small, beautiful dog walk. However, after momentarily leaving the car, we were met by the rudest grumpiest old man who wasn't polite but said, " I need to demand you leave" he demanded this three times to our confusion. It turns out there is a sign on the top carpark ( I'm disabled so we parked in the lower carpark), which in small words says no dogs allowed!! We do follow rules, and this was a complete accident by us, but the arrogant pompness of the man wilding a huge camera lense really upset me, so I would not...
