Visited here in June 2018. Booked by phone the long tour which is £9 if you are over 65 and takes 2 hours. It was a long walk down to the quarry face and it was a very hot day. The guide was most informative and we learnt a lot. Eventually we walked back up to the top, which I found very hard, but luckily the works landrover came along and picked up those of us who were finding the going hard in the heat. Once we were all at the to we were shown round the sawing shed, hand cutting area, polishing and shot blasting areas. Read moreA massive slate quarry in the village of Delabole. At present (August 2021) it is closed to the public owing to Covid 19 but you can walk around to top and look down into the quarry. There are also some pleasant walks in the immediate vicinity that are popular with dog walkers. There's a viewing area so you can stand and look over into the vast quarry beneath you and watch the massive trucks (though they look like toys from your perspective) working down below you.
