Lawrencefield is a fantastic place a short walk from the surprise view car park, which takes you past a graveyard of millstones in to a forest of silver birches. It’s a great place to explore or good for beginner climbers. Just be aware the ground is boggy in places and the banks can be slippery.

The walk it’s self is easy with only a few slopes to walk up ,I managed it in trainers but would still recommend walking boots.

Part of the Longshaw Estate and a missed opportunity for some great views if you just concentrate on the Burbage and Padley areas around here. Watch out for the young bullocks, which were contentedly chewing the cud today, and needless to say the huge mounds of poo that they produce! A great way to spend a lovely, but a bit misty, autumnal morning and...

Great little corner of quarried grit for reasonably protected climbing routes. The silver birch wood has a nice feel to it in winter- possibly due to being sheltered from the wind. Watch out for the ants in summer. The pond in the bottom of the quarry is a breeding spot for newts and frogs. Park at the Peak District National Park parking at...
