I love coming here, even when its busy you can avoid people as I have a reactive dog. I can walk for miles just using the footpaths without travelling too far from the car so that walk back is not as soul destroying.

Everyone I've came across has been super friendly and really understanding when it comes to my little naughty dog.

At the same time if your dog is friendly it's a great place to go to introduce your puppy by sticking to the beach.

If you're just up for a relaxing walk / run / cycle. The scenery is beautiful. You have cows and calves on the main footpath from cresswell to the visitor centre. Not forgetting the new addition of the Exmoor ponies which is wonderful to see.

I often walk from the cresswell side to the lake at the visitor centre the around the lake where there is many little footpaths. First we see the swans and other birds before braving the steppy stones. Your first left after the stones takes you to the sanctuary where you will see some very friendly chatty Robins! I recommend this highly it is extremely relaxing and a rare opportunity to get close to these beautiful birds.

There are many things I've missed off but im sure many people will have experiences that they would love to share!

Enjoy and stay safe on...

Hard standing pitches are a good size with plenty of room for caravan, awning and car. Country park is nice and clean. Lovely walk around the lake. The water sports on the lake are reasonably priced (we payed £60 for 4 people to kayak for 1hr). Park is right next door to the beach. 5 minute drive into amble for a walk around the harbour and some fish and chips.

The only negative for me is the toilets. The toilet block is a few hundred meters away from the closest caravan pitches so make sure you anticipate needing the toilet and leave yourself enough time to walk there. There is approx 5 toilets/shower rooms so at certain times of the day (mainly morning) there was often a que for toilets. Toilets and showers are in little cubicle together, nice idea but there is no door/shower curtain separating toilet and shower so when you have a shower all the water runs into the toilet area. There is a squeegee in the toilet room but this does not get rid of all the water so the next person to walk across the field and use the toilet gets the floor all muddy. Not a great design. But other than the negatives with the toilet block I would recommend the site and will...

The park was a beautiful place to visit. Paddle boards for singles and families available for rent single and double kayaks and small sail boats. Cafe which i didnt go in but will next time i visit. Great fun for families and dog lovers. I only did a small area in my wheel chair so can not say if the walk around the lake is accessible. There were several disabled bays which were all taken up us we were directed to the electric hook up parking bays. Not sure if these are working yet as they were covered. I would deffinatly recommend a visit if you like new areas to visit. To walk. Sit and enjoy the walk around the lake or down to the beach or a go on the lake. The family size paddle boards are huge i think the largest group i saw using one was six children and four adults and stable enough that no one fell off. Not sure about adaptions for disabled visitors as...

Lovely walk around the lake, mostly on the level gravel path but in certain places it was quite muddy (due to recent weather). The stepping stones are a novelty but a few were quite wobbly and if busy (which it was when I visited) you can have a bit of a wait to cross as there's only room for single file traffic - could do with a second set for the other direction. Would've been helpful if there was a map/signpost to let you know there was an alternative way to cross to the other side for anyone who hasn't visited before (like me!) as I probably would've gone that way instead as my dog wasn't too keen on the steps and the water was fairly deep. Cafe was understandably very busy with it being Easter, so a lot of the traybakes were gone so can't comment on those but the toastie was very tasty and service was pretty quick.

Great place to park for "rugged" (wide off-road tyres) wheelchair access to the beach, but you might want to bring an extra pair of hands for the way back up! To find the wheelchair accessible path head to the "coastguard path" on the road that goes along the top of the beach, there's a faded wheelchair sign on the gate - see photos and screenshot included. It's a stony path down to the beach that ends on soft sand at the top of the beach. The circular path around the lake is also fully wheelchair accessible, mainly stony pathsbut again you might want to have wide tyres for some of the grassier parts. If you're going clockwise you can bypass the stepping stones by carrying on up the hill a bit to a bridge then turning immediately right after crossing.
