An essential visit for anyone interested in aircraft, the Second World War, or the area’s local history.

There are lots of displays and photographs to see, along with models, artefacts and video footage. It is laid out very well, telling the story through the involvement of the RAF, then the USAAF and eventually the US Navy. It takes a balanced view of the Battle of the Atlantic, including displays about U-boats, their crews and the Luftwaffe’s efforts to combat anti submarine patrols.

We spent over an hour here and weren’t reading every board - could easily have taken longer.

Entry is free, but given the quality of the centre and that it is staffed entirely by volunteers, it is well worth leaving a donation. They were welcoming, knowledgeable and clearly very passionate about sharing the history of this unique airfield.

The Aviator cafe next door is well rated and there is still activity on the airfield including skydiving. They have a partner site at Upottery airfield, of Band of...

A destination that will educate and inform beyond words. Worth a visit! My husband's uncle (his namesake) left this airfield in a B24 in February, 1944, never to return. The entire crew went MIA that cold February day. It was later discovered that they had been attacked by 2 German fighters (which they were able to shoot down one) before becoming a victim themselves. We were impressed with the efforts of the volunteers and their contributions in keeping the memories of those who served here alive. A special thanks to Brian who went above and beyond for this once in a lifetime visit. These volunteers breath life into the words written on the memorial at the museum, "Many returned home, some stayed forever, none will be forgotten." With heartfelt thanks, Bill &...
