This site and its unique, historic aircraft hangars makes a fascinating visit. If you're interested in recent history, this place has any amazing past - from its origins as a private estate to the building of the airfield in WW1 which was busy until 1950s. Hooton airport was Liverpool Airport in the 1930s before Speke came into prominence. The hangars are listed buildings and one has been restored into a 'museum' now containing historic aircraft and vehicles. The whole site is run by a charitable Trust staffed entirely by volunteers. The place is fantastic I can't believe it's all run by a small group of individuals and volunteers. I came with the whole family, and we paid £18 for admission, which was worth every penny. The hangar is full of different airplanes as well as historic items from the Ellesmere Port region.
