Lovely trip with my grandma, mum and sister! Very good to feel relaxed and at peace amongst the nature. Easy enough to find, plentiful parking. The hosts/owners spoke about their love for planting and the wildlife the biodiversity attracts. Some of the seeds and trees come from all over the globe. Great paths, a lovely afternoon. Superb to see so many bees. Would recommend going. £8, very reasonable. Thank you.

Visited here many years ago but it rained, returned recently & were told by the gentleman owner that we were not allowed to go into the gardens due to our footwear. It was a red hot day both of us wearing pumps, nothing completely impractical. It's walking boots or your not getting in. This is due to their insurance and I completely understand. If this was the only issue we would have glady returned another time.

What I didn't take kindly to was his attitude telling us that they don't need the money & don't have to open to the public. What really annoyed me was his comment of "we are in the county now my dear" He made me & my mum feel like trespassers from the city, with no idea about the county, when actually we are Derbyshire born & bred, living 15 mins away in the heart of the Peak District. All this in front of a young couple, who obviously fitted the bill, in walking boots, sat with him & his wife having tea &...

THIS IS NOT REVIEW OF THE GARDENS! We never got as far as the gardens. The gardens aren't easy to find. When you arrive there's no clear signs to say where you can park or go. I'm not expecting a polished outfit, but some basics would be appreciated. The place looks a little tired. We left without entering the gardens. We had been there several years ago and really enjoyed it. I get the owners are retired. But if you are going to be open to the public please have some basics in place.

Reply: I'm not criticising your work ethic or your entrance fee (which I was happy to pay). Some guidance on where to pay and park was all I was giving you constructive criticism on. Something to make you feel you are in the right place and feel welcome. No...

1st visited about 4 years ago had a friendly chat with the charming lady/owner who could not sell the plant I wanted as the wind had collapsed the greenhouse.I said I would go back again some other time.I told many people to visit. I did return, only to be greeted by the rottweiler husband whose attitude was appalling.I vowed never to go again.Bit the bullet last week only to be greeted again by the charming lady and bought the very rare plant which I wanted so badly. She told me that they are trying to retire due to her health.Update Aug 2019.The plant was a Desfontania Spinoza and is thriving very well. The lady helped me to choose the best plant; She deserves a 5 star, her husband 0 stars.I have upped my rating to 3 ...
