03/01/2022 lovely views when your at the top tad windy at the top but you can see for miles once up there The Windgather Rocks (416 metres/1,365 ft a.s.l.[1]) is a gritstone crag on the Derbyshire–Cheshire border in England. It is in the Peak District National Park and is a popular site for learning the rudiments of rock climbing. As the name suggests the area is exposed to the prevailing westerly winds. The rocks lie above Taxal Edge and are part of a north–south ridge that starts between Kettleshulme and Whaley Bridge and culminates at Shining Tor.[1] The crag was featured in the first guide to rock climbing in the Peak District, Some Gritstone Climbs, published in 1913 and written by John Laycock.

Very good crag for beginners. As a result, the crag is super busy and parking can be hard. The crag is very friendly to beginners and families. Most small kids will be able to find a route they can do, and most beginners can try climbs ranging from a comfortable scramble to a more challenging (but safe) route. This is a great area to learn to trad climb, but will only stay this way if visitors look after the rock :) The crag is only a 1 minute walk from the nearest parking, potentially 10 minute walk from the further parking spaces up the road. I was quite careful of parking as bikes and cars speed through that road.

Windgather rocks is a great place to build your confidence climbing rocks, the rocks have good grip being gritstone and plenty of holds too,I enjoyed it. Bit of a disclaimer here though,it's entirely your responsibility to take care when climbing and only climb to your ability, accident's can and will happen and could be life changing..
