Really nice old hall with beautiful grounds. We stayed in the national trust apartment in Fountains Hall. Doesnt cost much more than a premier Inn if you divide it by 3 people and right in the grounds within yards of the Abbey. Access to all the amazing grounds and the Abbey after the public go home. Nearby, there's lots to do even in February when you would think most attractions would be closed. There are 2 National Trust flats in Fountains Hall and other, larger cottages dotted about the grounds of the Abbey. The Abbey mill is fascinating and full of informative displays and demonstrations. Contrary to what you may think, Fountains Hall isn't built from the ruins of the Abbey - just the odd bit here and there! There only seemed to be a few rooms open to the public at the hall - all on the ground floor. In one room the children (and the adults) can dress up and play lord...

I really like the outside of the hall, and the exhibition on the training camp the family set up for young men from depressed areas during the great depression was very interesting. Some more information on the hall and the family would also have been nice though.

For example who was living in the house before the family moved there when their other property burnt down? How did the family adapt to their new smaller residence? Was anything saved from the other property and brought with them? This house clearly has lots of stories to tell.

A perennial problem of the National Trust is their view that every property needs a collection of furniture, and that properties without this are only fit for use as offices or holiday homes. Some houses are interesting...

Fountains Hall is a hidden gem within Studley Royal Park. You will love its historic charm, built from the stones of the nearby abbey, and its connection to the stunning Elizabethan and Jacobean architecture. Only parts of the hall are open to explore, but the exhibitions provide a fascinating glimpse into its past.

The real highlight, though, is the setting. With water gardens, roaming deer, and the ruins of Fountains Abbey just steps away, it’s a perfect mix of history and natural beauty. A fair bit of walking is involved, but most find it well worth it.

Highly recommended for anyone visiting Fountains Abbey – it adds character, history, and scenic...

Fountains hall is a magnificent old building with a very interesting history. Don’t miss visiting Fountains hall when you visit Fountains abbey. Only a few downstairs rooms are open to the public. Currently until December there is an Art installation entitled Chaos and light which is situated upstairs in an interesting room high up. I would recommend visiting the Mill before watching the Art performance as this provides you with background knowledge as to the meaning of the Chaos and light presentation
