Connaught Water — Attraction in Epping Forest

It's great to start your walk here. Connaught Water itself is a nice place, plenty of interesting birds to see, a nice setting of wet woodlands. You can do a tour around the water if you have little time or very young kids, but it's also a great starting point for longer hikes of 2 to 4 hours. All main paths are well signed out, but if you're deep in thought or conversation, you might occasionally miss a turn.

Much of the wood here is not too dense and accesible for off-trail hikes. This ads a distinct flavour of adventure to a hike. Bring a good map and a gps device, and this area will let you do some excellent practice for more remote outdoor hikes. For all of the area, google Maps will always bring you back to a main path, so there's no real chance of getting lost. But the data connection can sometimes be a bit slow. A simple, affordable gps device, say like an etrex 20, will be a lot of fun here even when not...

Connaught water lake is a beautiful and peaceful location, where you can walk around or observe different species of birds. It is sourrounded by a vast amount of green space, making it a peaceful place. Excellent choice to escape routine and go away from cities, as there is a very relaxing and peaceful vibe. Its a nice little place to go for a walk, the geese are almost tame.

The only downsides are those who have out of control dogs who let the chase the birds, jump at you etc. The regular dog walkers are all very pleasant though.
