California Country Park is a true gem. Nestled in 100 acres of rich woodland and heathland, it offers a wonderful blend of natural beauty and well-thought-out family facilities that make it a standout choice. A Beautiful Place for a Walk The park's landscape is its main attraction. The central feature is the stunning Longmoor Lake, around which a gentle, accessible path of just under a mile provides a beautiful and easy walk for all ages and abilities. The route is perfect for pushchairs and offers lovely views across the water, where you can spot swans, ducks, and other birdlife. For those wanting a longer stroll, the 2.2-mile Woodland Walk takes you through ancient woodland and across a boardwalk over Longmoor Bog, a Site of Special Scientific Interest (SSSI). This trail feels like a real escape into nature, with rare mosses and plants creating a serene atmosphere. Excellent for Kids & Family Time This is where the park truly shines for families. The adventure play area is fantastic, modern, and engaging. It's split into two main sections: The Sensory Garden: Aimed at younger children, this area features creative water play sections, a colourful pirate ship, musical chimes, and gentle climbing frames. The Wild Wood: Designed for older, more adventurous kids, this part includes a fantastic large wooden treehouse, climbing structures, a zip line, and swings. During the warmer months, the paddling pool is an enormous hit (booking is usually required). With ample space for picnics and Jacksons Café on-site offering delicious food and drinks with a view of the lake, you can comfortably spend the entire day here. Relaxed Family Fishing For those looking to introduce their kids to fishing, Longmoor Lake is ideal. It is a well-stocked coarse fishery, offering a relaxed and picturesque environment. You can expect to catch species like roach, perch, tench, and even some good-sized carp and pike. It’s perfect for pleasure fishing from one of the 33...
Read moreJust come back from an 'average' day out. Took some time to work out the parking pay machine, which didn't advertise how much we were going to spend! We entered the facility through lots of metal fences and building work. There were no signs to tell you what was available there or a map. Went into the cafe to pay for my 7 year old and 1 year old to use the paddling pool. I was surprised when I was told it was £2.50 each even for the baby. I was even more surprised when I was told my 15 year old or myself were not allowed to go in the water to look after the baby unless we paid another £5. After about 20 mins the baby wanted to get out anyway! I was amused to see that the lads in charge of the pool area only reacted if they saw people without wrist bands and completely ignored several boys run past them many times! Thought we'd try and make the best of the park area, but there wasn't really much for the kids to do. Especially for a toddler. Got back after just over 2 hours to find the charge was £4.50 for the car park! We had to travel 30mins to get there and it was nothing special and the place has a really terrible wasp problem so you can't even sit and relax! The prices do not suit the facilities. Won't be going back, very...
Read moreLovely location, peaceful and quiet, lots of birds. Booked here to meet up with family. We stayed in a chalet on the edge of the lake. Fantastic time, picnic bench, we brought a little off the ground bbq. Access to the park is a remote gate (you are issued with a fob) plenty of parking at the side of the chalet, we had 2 cars. The chalet was clean and homely. Good size bedrooms (2), one room a good size double bed, very comfortable, the 2nd room had 2 bunk beds, that were adult size. The kitchen was was equipped, good size fridge and oven and included a microwave. The lounge was spacious, with 2 settees and a table and chairs. Bathroom fair size but thought a bigger sink and more accessible shower cubicle, but plenty of hot water for a shower. Bedding included but take your own towels. I would highly recommend this location for a quiet relaxing getaway. Public toilets Nd a laundrette is very useful. Small necessities at the reception shop. A very warm, friendly welcome, the staff were extremely helpful. Great customer service. I would definitely book there again if I visit...
