A beautiful natural attraction on the Holderness Coast of East Yorkshire, Selwicks Bay backs on to the famous Flamborough Head.

From the Flaborough Head car park, head towards the cliff north of the lighthouse, and you’ll find the footpath that descends towards the bay. This is not for the unfit, as though the descent is no real strain, the journey back up can certainly take it out of you! The first few yards are fairly steep down the mud cut steps, before traversing the cliff edge, and finally another descent on mud cut steps before the last few metres of metal stairway.

Being aware of tide times is vital to avoid being trapped in the bay, so BE WARNED! The tide comes in VERY FAST in this area, so check in advance and be ready to get back up the footpath well in advance. However, it is perfectly safe at other times, and at low tide the bay is absolutely stunning, with rock pools and arches to explore.

This is a rocky beach, with a stretch of sand further out, so be sure to wear sturdy footwear on your way...

This is a magic little bay with lots of great features. At high tide the access area to the beach is limited, but the water is crystal clear and we had a great swim along the cliff edges and had a few curious seal visitors. At low tide it’s a great place for the family with the cliffs providing shade in some areas and plenty of rock pools, caves, and more beaches around the coves to explore. Make sure you know the tides if you go exploring along the cliffs to get back to Selwicks Bay before the tide comes in, and also note there was no phone...

Definitely a place to visit, when bay is dry you can wonder around on foot and walk it through to find hidden spots, careful tide is quick can cut you off. Seals everywhere especially near dinosaur, they even get close to beach keep your eyes on water. You can get really close to them but not to close to scare them read signs on the way to the beach. When tide comes bay completely changes and you'll be surprised how much it can hide under water make sure you stay until last bit of beach is...

Clean and dog friendly, Selwicks sandy Bay houses striking white cliffs, and abstract cliff formations. Selwicks sandy Bay offers closeby parking, shops, food and ice cream spot, scenic walking route with the Drinking Dinosaur / Sea Arch about 43mins walking distance from the lighthouse. Please check Tide times for the bay and lookout for the cheecky seals. Access to the beach is via steep steps with at least two rest corners furnished with benches.
