Don't bring young children! too many loose dogs! This place looked like a lovely family environment for myself and my 9 year old son. Very well maintained and lot of lovely small well paved walks lined with trees and shrubs. One problem. Dogs are not on their leads. As we set out it wasn't long before three dogs come bounding down, heading towards us some way from their owners. Now I don't mind dogs but my son who has been bitten twice by dogs (unprovoked by him) shouted out to call the dogs off as they ran past me and started jumping up at his face. The owners called the dogs off but weren't quick of the mark to do so. I'm sure the dogs meant no harm but it shook my son up. 5 minutes later, as we got further along the paved route, two large and aggressive dogs came running to us barking with no owner in sight. My son cried out in fear as I shouted at the dogs to keep back. The owner then appeared and shouted at the dogs to keep back. But she made no action to restrain them. My son who was very upset and wanted to go home. This place is spoilt by the fact the dogs are not on a lead in a public place. It's not family friendly and I advise families with young children...
Read moreAmazed by this place. If you're looking for a very cheap but wholesome family day out this is it. Free entry, £2.70 to park all day at weekends and a cracking cafe that delivers outrageously good value. Staff were very pleasant and relaxed.
The grounds are beautiful and there's plenty to see with walks of varying distance. Some stunning ancient oaks punctuate the rolling parkland which is full of cornflowers and afew wildflowers I hadnt seen before. An upland stream bisects the site and flows through heavily engineered sections of victorian vintage including a waterfall. Would be nice to have seen the watercontrol structures with boards in to holdback water as stream looked a bit parched.
Not entirely great for push chairs owing to flights of steps but we managed to get ours round and it was well worth the effort. Lots of space and a most pleasant ambience. Everybody we saw was smiling and seemed to be thoroughly enjoying the place which may be why there's zero litter. The place is absolutely spotless. A truly wonderful amenity that is now firmly on our list. So refreshing to find somewhere not out to rinse the visitors. Couldn't recommend...
Read moreBrockhill Country Park is always a safe bet for a good day out. Cheap all-day parking, and plenty to keep busy with. The walk around the park takes plenty of time and is full of great scenery. The fields are home to livestock but can be accessed by the public, adding another level to a lovely walk. The kids park is large and full of a range of well maintained equipment. The park also had a hand sanitising station, beneficial during the current Covid pandemic. Only downsides would be the cash-only cafe, which offers a great selection of sqeet, savoury and beverages, but will only accept cash. This isn't a massive issue, but it doesn't feel very covid safe, given the current prevalence of contactless payment. The other small downside is the lack of general waste bins around the park. There are a few dog poo bins, but no general waste bins beyond the cafe at the park entrance. This is fairly senseless, given the number of picnic benches around the park area. Overall its a great day out, but be prepared to carry your rubbish with you, and have cash on hand if you...
