Tickets to see the castle are £5 per adult. This is a massively inflated price for access to what is a very small area of ruined castle, a gift shop, and a one room exhibition on the battles fought at the castle and surrounding area with some replica weapons and armour and some recent history of the current estate. Save your money and look over the small hedge in front of the gift shop, that gives you a view of all that remains of the castle!
The Castle and Grounds are well kept, and there is ample nearby parking and good toilet facilities nearby. Beware though as the whole Ford and Etal experience is a very big tourist trap linked together by a chargeable light railway (£7 per adult per day) where at every stop you have to pay to see the next attraction. A day out here can very rapidly become very pricey if you go through more than a few stops...
