Total disappointment and unprofessional.
My wife and I along with our 2 children visited thinking it would be a treat to have lunch here.
We decided to sit in an area that suited our dogs. All I can do I reel off reasons not to visit.-
starter took nearly an hour to be served. when I asked where our starter was we were told it’s because the chef was waiting for the gammon (we ordered for our young daughter to come out with starters)
when the gammon came out it was aweful and the egg on top the gammon slice was cooked to death almost looked fried to a crisp
we were sat outside the kitchen and all we could here was the kitchen playing Stormzy and Akon really loud. We then heard one chef complaining to their colleagues that they have a system by putting information on the fridge and they come in and ruin it.
From my own catering background seeing a member of the kitchen come out with tracksuit bottoms and sliders with no form of PPE after grabbing food from the external freezer I felt it was a little unprofessional and non compliant with handling foods.
In the end we decided to cancel our order and leave to seek food and drinks elsewhere.
When I informed the barman ( who had already put our starter through wrong and had no customer service skills) that the time was so lengthy to wait I got told sorry but we are busy having done 80 covers today. I informed the barman that the kitchen didn’t sound so busy being sat outside as they argued and sang along to music. The barman had no comment to support the issue and just appeared to express that we were just a problem seeking food and drink there.
I was then informed that my refund won’t be done via my card payment but cash.
Very disappointing. Next time I am in the area I will visit the tea room across the road.

Read moreOn first impression this is a nice pub. Very inviting and nice staff! Unfortunately we ate here! We ordered a vegan option! Ordered vegan soup starter and was given cows butter with this also bread that may or may not have been vegan. Thought this was just an over sight so ignored it! Ordered vegan sausage and mash with vegan gravy, there was beef in the gravy and I mean chunks of beef!!! When the manager was informed he apologized profusely and renewed the dish! To our amazement they served the same gravy with chunks of beef! Our vegan friend was devastated and inconsolable to as he had consumed part of this food! While we do not have the same values, we came here for a lovely family lunch!! This was ruined!! The manager disappeared when we came to pay and further express our disappointment, he expected a member of staff to deal with the situation, which to be fair the lady behind the bar did and we apologize for being less than polite. We were given numerous explanations from the manager, each contradicting the last. Due to this, our friend lost confidence that this establishment offers vegan foods and would not patronise this pub again. A concern here is that while our friend is ethically vegan and will suffer no health consequences, the Black Bull Inn claims to cater the the gluten and lactose intolerant but I would not put a friend's health at risk trusting...
Read more60th Birthday meal with my family and really looking forward to it. This is my account of my meal. Starter was haggis fritter with irn bru jam, definitely the best starter I have had in my life hands down amazing. Main sirloin chips onion rings tomatoes mushroom black pepper sauce, looked good but looks can be deceiving it wasn't sirloin it was gristle in the shape of a steak. How did it taste ? I honestly couldn't say I didn't have a single mouthful I had 4 chips 2 onion rings, I couldn't eat anymore the "steak" had put me off my meal, I complained to the over worked waitress and the plate was taken from the table later the waitress said the management was giving me a discount for the steak ,I said discount? I couldn't eat the steak, they where good to their word for my 4 chips and 2 onion rings I paid £15.50 would I recommend The Black Bull Etal? No. Haggis fritter ten out of ten for my main meal zero out of ten , note to management don't try to take the public as mugs also invest in some steak knives so your customers can at least cut...
