Now don't get me wrong. This excursion will take you around 10 minutes and then it's over. There isn't a lot to see here. To the unhistorical nut, it is a field... with sheep... and a rock... but, looking closely, and doing your research, for those who love Richard III, this is his birthplace.

No, there isn't much left of this landmark and it is quite disappointing but it is nice to go and see. There are information boards there too so you aren't completely lost as to what is what. This is also the place where Mary Queen of Scots was beheaded (or imprisoned, I cannot remember). It was nice to see rosaries and people paying their respects here.

You can walk up the steps and stand right at the top which is a beautiful view. This isn't a place I would recommend for those who struggle to walk.

Parking is a bit funny here but you can park down the road on the right hand side and walk up which only takes a few minutes. It looks like you cannot park here but I saw loads of reviews saying you could.

Overall, I think this is a great place for those interested in history and...

This is a very quiet, unassuming place which has witnessed some very notable historical figures down the years (King Richard III, Catherine of Aragon, Mary Queen of Scots etc). However, you do have to use your imagination on this site since there is very little left above ground to see aside from the motte, the moat, a small portion of the original keep wall & some earthworks. I really enjoyed my visit & myself and my two young children had the place to ourselves. There are a few information signs that give you an idea of what the castle would have looked like etc. The modern-day village is very picturesque and there is a decent pub too. Worth a visit but don't expect a large site with substantial ruins because this is a castle that fell out of use hundreds...

Not masses to see ,but what there is is very lovely, atmospheric and interesting. The village itself is well worth the visit alone, with its graceful wide road and splendid church. The village sits on the river, meandering and clear. The castle remains , just out of the village at the opposite end from the pub, are the highlight. There's an info board with pictures , which make it easy to see what you're looking at. I for one have visited a few times now, and will again. As aforementioned, there is a very good pub called the Falcon. But personally I prefer Boswells, the garden centre cafe at Elton Hall walled garden. Or the Queens Head at Nassington, where you can sit down by the river... all...

To access this site you will need to park in the small village of Fotheringhay, and its a short walk down a lane. To one of the most important spots in British history. Don't expect a castle or big ruins, there isn't any, apart from one pit of rubble, a few plaques and earthworks..what you do get is a sense of history, of walking in the footsteps of Richard iii and Mary Queen of Scots and that is priceless and good enough for me.

Interesting site to visit but ideally book a tour of it to get the most out of it. I was fortunate to book on a tour with Northamptonshire Archaeological Society that explained it all. Wear good footwear over the uneven ground and there are sheep droppings. Some parts of the small site are steep. You can climb to the top for the view but I'd advise walking stick(s) as the steps are steep.

History of the main building and site are found on a information board as you enter the site nothing remains of the building itself but a large masonry block of the castle wall is on display by the river edge. The site is mainly laid to grass so can be a bit muddy under foot in wet weather but summer is a great place to visit and picnic by the river. Parking can be tight at busy time's
