It's a lovely walk along the Riverside from Newcastle, Gateshead and along to Dunston.. About 20 mins walk. We went to the staiths because they have a food festival every 2nd Saturday of the month during warmer weather. There were only about 12 stalls but sold a variety of food (sausages, Greek flat breads with toppings, chips with toppings, cheeses, bread, pasties etc..)... A lot of vegan options... And some handicrafts. The busker outside really added to the ambience, and the fab coffee stall. Also pizza and ice-cream available. Entrance fee was 50p for the food market. Apart from that the staiths would be interesting to see and read the info boards but not hugely interesting. No...

It was our first visit and as a now residential area was lovely and green and quiet.
The Staiths have their own website and afterwards I learned that they are believed to be the largest timber structure in Europe.
They were opened in 1893 by the North East Railway Company and their purpose was to load coal onto ships for transport to London and abroad.
They are opened seasonally, check website for times. They were closed due to Coronavirus...
