Bestwood Winding Engine House — Attraction in Gedling

An excellent renovation of the historical Winding House and Head Stocks showing the true history of this village. Immaculate work and ongoing displays with guided tours of this villages employment mining heritage, the volunteers who have given hours of their engineering expertise to bring this winding engine back to life for all to see. Surrounded by the beautifully created countryside which incorporated the hidden slag heaps of the past of the vast site and home of Bestwood Colliery ... country side walks through the wooded areas of Bestwood...

Never been before today, and I really enjoyed it. It is in Bestwood Country Park, has free parking and there is a little cafe serving tea, coffee and cakes. We were guided around the engine house, which was fascinating, and the gentleman who took us used to work at that pit at one time. They run the engine and the headgear every Saturday. It is only open a few hours on a Saturday, but I would recommend it worth a visit, and you could always go for a work around the park...

What a amazing place to visit hot drinks and great cake.very cheap only a £5 for 4 hot drinks and 3 pieces of cake just amazing value closes at 12pm so get there early great walks for dogs and kids we spent 4_5 hours walking around great history to the place to. its free to go in and have a look in the engine house...
