Gelligaer is an ancient community with a Roman past that was hidden until Edwardian archaeologists started to excavated Gaer Fawr and Gaer Fach and confirmed that there was a Roman Fort hidden beneath the grass. Really nothing to see, farmers land with horses on it, you can't even get on the field, there are a few notice boards for you to read, but...

Such a shame the site was dug up and stoned used for other purposes leaving just a field and a few bumps. Good information boards and a slightly broken display you can look through to see what it would have been like.

It'd be great if it could be rebuilt and used as a hotel, but I guess this site is destined to just be used to...

As other reviews say it is just a field. There is a sign talking about the history of the site and as glass panel giving an illustration of what the site may have looked like in Roman times. Unfortunately there is no way to access the field itself. It is completely fenced off all the way round and when I was there horses were...
