We wanted somewhere quick and nearby to go so thought we would have a wander over.

This is a first rate place to stop. The car park is useful and the gate and and welcoming buildings are well marked and there is also a guide sheet to follow for the one mile walk with a first stop at the mill which is a little down the road by the stream.

The next part of the walk carries on along a stream and we came across three ponies which graze on the National Trust land. The walk then joins the South West coastal path with access to great views across Poltesco Cove. One carries along to the pebble beach and then up past the Old Serpentine factory ruins which again are well marked and good to explore.

The walk thrn takes you back to the car park. It takes 30 - 40 mins but this can be lengthend by taking a picnic to eat on the cliff or being just a part of a.walk along the...

A small pebble beach with the remains of the old Serpentine Works. There is also an old fish processing building with the orginal winch room and a plaque explaining how it worked. If you walk through the works away from the bay you arrive at another plaque to read, behind you the water wheel housing and next to that a lovely designed wooded footbridge over the stream that once fed the wheel. Still all looked nice in winter when we visited but we will return in spring to see it with leaves on the trees. We'll...

Tucked away on the east coast of the lizard peninsula is the disused but not forgotten Old Serpentine works, a cottage industry of hardened souls that made their keep from the beautiful rock. Many colours can be found in the Serpentine rock and pieces can be found on the beach that have been rolled and washed by the sea. Well worth the walk from the car park to loose yourself in the history of one of the oldest traditions of The lizard. Keep an eye out...

I just so love this place. The ruins are so full of the Cornish Serpentine history. This is where serpentine (a local marble) was carved & polished before it was loaded onto boats and distributed to customers. The beach is rocks, but its a perfect place to watch the sunrise. Part of the coastal cliff path walk. Poltesco is worth visiting, there is a free display about the history in the local area. Watch out for the free roaming ponies though!

An interesting stop off. A short walk through the woods from the National Trust Carpark to the ruins of the Serpentine works. This is where local craftsmen quarried and worked the rock in the 1800’s. The buildings are slowly being taken over by nature but that doesn’t takeaway the mystique of the past of what was a bustling industry. There’s a pebbled beach here and the whole site sits within Carleon Cove on the Lizard peninsula. PB 👍🏻
