Worth stopping for "A quick one" and taking a few minutes on the outside seating, after the walk up from the beach. : Friendly little place, open all year round. Limited days in winter. Above average for friendlyness and locals.
14th April 2023: Still getting Rattled, Log burner made it toastie warm. Fetched in a Kebab from "Kerno Kebab" Van, noticed a table had Thai food from the "Van" over the road. A little girl playing Jenga with her dad made me laugh at her joy when dad toppled it.
16th August 2022: Really relaxed, chilled with a Rattler.
29th April 2022, Still a nice pint and excellent atmosphere.
15th Oct 2021: Friday Night Quiz night was Great success. Found a table, in little bar, But soon filled up to standing room. The Holywood picture round Stumped us, She /He was in.... But whats the actors name???. (Not the charactor) The new decor looks great, and the hatch to outside seems to be a good idea. Really good Night.
16th October: Quiet early, but once Karaoke started the atmosphere developed rapidly. Stars lastnight were Tony and Alan (Locals) sang several songs with many others taking turns. (With everyone else singing along.) EXCELLENT EVENING. Came home smiling, voice a bit horse, well after 11pm.
Local Takeaway Food: At the moment, The Potters do pasties. (Even the cheese one is great). Used to do pizza, but no-longer (Cook not reliable, so Kev stopped it)
Several nights a week, there is a Thai Takeaway Van in the field just opposite. Kev has menu's in Bar, and is OK about you eating at the outside tables. We have often ordered, by phone from bar and nipped over to collect. Nearest Chippy is at Lizzard (Smugglers), There is a Takeaway van Kurno Kebabs, doing Burgers, kebabs etc. Just near the turning to Mullion, off Helston road (Very good, Queue says it all) Mullion has a chippy and occasional Indian food Van( Tuesday and Thursday evenings) Chinese, Two in Helston plus four chip shops (The one near Tesco is brilliant) and a burger place. Most seem to close Very Early ( by upcountry standards) Sea-acres, used to have a takeaway. (Not used it) Surprised to find a REALLY good cake and coffee stall and Texmex food van at the Cider barn Several of villages have restaurants.
Over the years, the availability and quality of takeaway food around Kuggar has Changed, just don't...
Read moreReally great family run free-house. (I will tell you first that my family owns this business but this will not sway my honest judgement) over the summer there is a pizza service till late and always some kind of entertainment during the weekend, Karaoke etc..
the building has seen a lot of wear and tear over the years as the building has transformed many times over the years. but these issues are slowly being addressed bit by bit. they recently fitted new wooden doors to the entrance and now have reasonably sized outside seating area.
the staff have always been personally helpfully to me but as they are my family I feel that I'm unable to judge this from a visitors point of view.
local beers such as Betty Stoggs bitter and others as well as local lagers too.
they have a pool table and darts board in the back room for the older visitors and also a few board games for children are stashed out there too. there is also a box full of pencils and pens to keep youngsters occupied.
just a 10 minute walk down the hill is a lovely beach too, called kennack sands. and there's nothing better than walking up the hill on a hot summer's day to find a local watering hole when you get to the top. there is also a small gift/beach store next to the potters bar, also ran by the same people and they sell Cornish made trinkets, hand made pottery and plenty of beach goods for everyone from wetsuit hire to large kite hire, buckets, spades, but you...
Read moreLast year the family and I were staying in Helston, having never been to area before we got lost and ended up at the potters bar. Was quiet due to the time of day but the gentleman behind the bar was very friendly and welcoming. I asked if they were still serving food but they weren't, however the chef was still around and kindly agreed to cook up a few pizzas for us which were great. Great beer, good prices and very friendly staff. The wife and I are due to have a weekend away and I've booked up a campsite nearby, will definitely be returning to this pub...
