I happened to be in Glasgow, near here and decided to revisit. 1st time in over 46 years. This was my playground as a young child until 1st year at Crookston Castle Secondary School.

I have to say that I never for a moment thought it would have the emotional effect it did.

So many memories climbing the hill with my friends, rolling down in fits of laughter and usually covered in grass.

We even ventured into the Castle a few times and climbed up to look out at the view, in awe, wondering if someone else had looked out from the same point, centuries prior. They would have certainly seen a totally different view than we did.

Would I recommend a visit here...100% and there's enough space for the kids if you have any or your dog to have a good old run around.

This was my childhood playground and I will never forget the years I spent playing here.

Thank you...

I love that there is a castle, a piece of history left untouched, near my neighborhood. I walk there when I find time, it is close by car but takes about 1,5 hour back and forth on foot. I am so disappointed that whenever I visit, it is closed. It was closed due to weather a couple of times when I went, but the weather was decent enough for me to walk back then. I decided to go again yesterday, since the weather was warm and sunny. It was closed again. This time it said on the sign at the gate that the keykeeper was on holiday and will be back next month. I did look online for opening hours and any additional notes if it would be closed, only one that I could find said it would be closed between May 18-31. So I assumed it would be open this time, on June 3rd, but no. I don't know if I will ever get to visit when it's...

I have been wanting to visit Crookston Castle for some time and I'm glad I did as it's much better than I had expected. There are some great information points around and within the castle which is very good and helps you imagine how the place was run and tells you a bit about the people that worked and lived in it. It can be a bit creepy and I even managed to frighten myself with my own shadow. 🫣☺️ Obviously it's a very old building and some of the stairways could be classed as dangerous nowadays so only attempt going inside in good light or if you have a torch. You'll also need to be reasonably fit and able as there's a lot of stairs and two ladders at the top. It's certainly well...

High on a hill only a few miles from city centre Glasgow and the city's second oldest building after the cathedral. Well maintained with information boards in the different rooms and steps up to the top with fine views. Built around 1400 surrounded by a defensive ditch that dates back to the C12th. Much of it was destroyed in battle in 1489 and then it was besieged in 1544. Unfortunately, it's now surrounded by an ugly housing estate with local youths causing problems to this important relic of the areas history.

Very impressive castle and in remarkable condition considering its history. Entry is free all year round. We parked on the street adjacent to the castle and walked for 2 minutes. The climb to the top isn’t for the feint hearted as the wrought iron stairs feel like they’re ages with the castle, additionally you can see through the gaps of the stairs whilst climbing. The views from the top are stunning and it can get windy too. Lots of information boards dotted around the castle telling you about its history.

This castle is a little far out from the city centere, but it is certainly worth the trip. Entrance is free. There is no gift shop or restrooms or personnel there. The castle itself has several rooms to explore and you can go to the top of the one remaining tower. Please note that as with many castles, some areas can be difficult to reach. If you are interested in castles, I recommend this one.
