Arrived for a two day camp and mountain bike session with a friend and our children. The Afan forest trails are great and the forest is beautiful. You can access the family trail from the campsite to cycle down to the Afan forest MTB centre to access the rest of the trails. Glyncorrwg ponds campsite however was very very poor. The toilets ran out of toilet paper by 7am on both days and we’re not refreshed. So you had to wait until 9am to take a dump when the cleaning person arrived. The toilets (men’s only have 2 cubicles) are both broken / breaking / leaking water all over the floor. The showers (again x2 in the men’s) were dirty with no squeegee to mop up / clean mud from the floor. So you had a shower and then had to walk across mud to get dressed. The hand soap in the toilets had been watered down to the point of it being water and therefore completely ineffective. There is nowhere to freeze coolblocks if you have a non-electric pitch. The bin area near the toilets was overflowing and looked an absolute mess. It is obvious the campsite is an afterthought and the cafe / mountain bike shop is where most effort is focussed. Which is a great shame as the site has huge potential. Half of it had been neglected and left to become overgrown / full of weeds but the tended part was full of camper vans and / tents. There were millions of midges in July and we all got bitten to death in the afternoon / evening. I would not come back or recommend staying at this campsite. Find another one...
Read moreAbsolutely stunning location. Incredibly peaceful and just a few miles off the M4 through the stunning Afan Valley, yet feels so remote. Excellent dark skies location for night time photography. Clean facilities for showers and toilets for campsite use and for cyclist's using the mountain trails, though the toilets upstairs in the restaurant are unisex which I wasn't particularly happy about, and needed a clean. There's a lift for the disabled to facilitate entry to the restaurant and a disabled toilet, and the area around the lake's has a gravel base to enable disabled visitors in wheelchairs to access the area, though this could be hard going in parts, though thoroughly worth it for the stunning scenery and peaceful environment. Another point to mention is there's live music at the venue, though check when available as I'm not sure. The campsite is well maintained, level, very clean and extremely peaceful, and again, you could be in the middle of nowhere yet just a few miles off the M4 corridor. Highly recommended, stunning location, world class mountain biking courses through the stunning Afan Valley, and a fabulous location for family day's out as I did on Mother's day, and as a disabled person myself found the area accessible, and a very welcomed peaceful and reflective environment full of natural...
Read moreGood campsite, seriously iffy shower. £2 per token though we were not charged for ours. 5 minutes and oh, rookie error! Put the token in before getting undressed! After quick removal of waterproofs and tugging off laced up boots, the battle began. I fought for the limp stream of tepid water on one side, I could hear my partner frustratedly pounding the button on the opposite side of the wall, I adopted a pose a prima ballerina would be proud of to de-grime my undercarriage. By this point the trickle was only coming an inch out from the wall. Sweet relief! He's given up on the other side and a full 10 seconds of decent warm stream but...he's back in the game, lost power and warmth again. We both gave up.
Also, gate...
