Knighton Park in Leicester is a well-loved green space offering a perfect mix of natural beauty, family-friendly facilities, and outdoor activities. Nestled in the southern part of the city, it spans 78 acres and provides a peaceful retreat from the urban bustle. One of its standout features is Knighton Spinney, a mature woodland area designated as a Local Nature Reserve. This wooded zone, along with the Wash Brook stream that winds through the park, attracts a variety of wildlife including birds, bats, and aquatic species.

For families and recreational visitors, Knighton Park has plenty to offer. There are two play areas tailored to different age groups, football pitches, bookable tennis courts, and even a FootGolf course for something a bit different. An outdoor gym, orienteering routes, and open green fields make it ideal for both casual strolls and more energetic activities. The Sensory and Heath Gardens provide quiet spots for relaxation, complete with a pond, rockery, and aromatic plantings.

The park is also praised for its welcoming atmosphere and accessibility. There's free parking, decent public transport links, and regular appearances from an ice cream van and coffee vendors. Although the toilet facilities could be better maintained and dog waste bins are limited, most visitors find the park clean and family-friendly. All in all, Knighton Park is a versatile space that suits everyone—from dog walkers and joggers to nature lovers and young families.

I've visited this park since I was younger and think it's super friendly and...

Good place to walk the dogs and a safe childrens play area. There is also an outside gym/exercise yard and tennis courts. The childrens play area is split into three sections I'm guessing that's for different age groups/abilities. There are paved and woodland trails with a selection of wide open spaces for joggers, cyclists and dog walkers or those just wanting a stroll in the fresh air. There is a stream that runs through the area but I feel like I need to warn you:-. It is fed by run off from the surrounding roads drainage and therefore does carry A LOT of pollution. This is proven by the distinct lack of aquatic life. Not even stickle backs or crayfish. We could not even find any water bugs. Which is a great shame really for such a pretty area. There are plenty of benches to rest your weary legs and there is also a picnic area and public toilets nearby. To be totally honest they are a little bit smelly (typical public toilets) but not unusable. On most days throughout the spring and summer there is usually an ice cream seller and a hot drinks van NR the picnic area. Only other 2 things that I think needs a mention is:- During heavy rain some areas can get a bit, let's say overwhelmed by water and more bins are needed as several areas don't have any at the time I write this(late 2024). I mean who needs to be carrying a bag of dog meds around with them whilst they try and enjoy their walk?? However, ending on a positive note. The place is relatively rubbish free and kept tidy most...

Situated in the center of Oadby, lies the aesthetically pleasing Knighton Park. I visited this location with my family and children.

The parking facilities are more than adequate. I believe there are additional entry points to the park aside from the one we utilized.

The park is meticulously maintained, and its various sections are evenly distributed. The maintenance standards are commendable.

There are two designated play areas. One is intended for younger children, while the other caters to older children. The children's play area features slides, swings, a sandpit, and other enjoyable activities. The area for older children offers various climbing structures.

Adjacent to the play areas are a tennis court, a cricket ground, and a football ground, all of which are open to the public.

In summary, this location provides a tranquil environment and offers engaging activities for individuals of all ages. We spent approximately three hours there and thoroughly enjoyed our time. Picnic tables are available for those who wish to have...

In the summer, this fantastic park can become busy and lively. Local people know that the park is at its best in the early morning when there’s a chance to see all kinds of wildlife, friendly dog-walkers and the natural splendour of trees. I’ve seen a kingfisher flying along the brook; there are foxes, badgers and plenty of squirrels but only when the park is quiet. Knighton park is great for a frosty winter walk and you sometimes get amazing sunset views there. At peak times, it’s brilliant for kids, ice-cream, footgolf, picnics and pooh sticks. There are a couple of gloomy toilets and a heart defibrillator but no cafe or first aid facility. Recommended but please don’t all go at the same time!
