Absolutely amazing day out here. The first car park outside is only small. There's another one further up 10 minute walk and then another even further away 🥴. We even struggled getting a space there. There's a few shops, toilet and a interactive map to guide you around your route at the start. Definitely wear good boots as its very rocky. Start veering left at the foot of Lynn Idwal once you arrive, going clockwise. It's a much easier incline. The footpath is stoney rocky. The views are amazing and breathtaking. You will see brave rock climbers there too and some sheep here and there. There's a few streams running down from the mountain tops to stop have a paddle or drink the lovely fresh water 🤓. The decline may be a bit tough for some people especially kids so do keep hold onto the kids so they don't slip. Steep and rocky in some parts. But defo worth the challenge. At the foot coming back down you can relax at the small pebbled beach area before the embarking back down on the rocky footpath back down to the start. From the carpark it's about a 20 minute walk to the foot of Lynn Idwal before the circular route. You can probably do it in about 2 hours, but as we had kids we took lots of breaks and all in all we started at 12 and finished around 5pm, so 5 hours of...

I have been wanting to do this walk for a number of years but had never been in the area until a week or so ago, I have to admit I loved it. I'd recommend getting there early to beat the crowds, we got there around 9ish, and there was plenty of parking at that time, but the earlier the better. The walk up to Llyn Idwal is lovely, it's not strenuous and there's a lovely waterfall just up from the visitors centre. The pathway is a little rough under the feet so you do need to watch where you are heading. As you get to the top, you come to the lake in which the side and one end is surrounded by mountains, stunning scenery, the walk can be as hard or as easy as you make it, we just walked around the lake, but you can take higher paths too, as well as go up to the Devil's Kitchen, there is also a pebble beach on the lake, great to take sandwiches and have a drink before completing the rest of your hike. Absolutely love this place and need to get back there as...

Cwm Idwal is a great tourist attraction with relatively easy access allowing non mountaineers to sample the atmosphere of the mountains. Park at Ogwen Cottage (fees apply) or further up the A5 where there is some free parking but don't be tempted to park on the bench opposite the double white lines otherwise you'll get a ticket and points!! Walk up the signposted track about half a mile and you'll find Llyn Idwal Take a while to walk around the llyn (lake) and also wander up to the grass ridge at the North end to view Nant Francon, a fantastic example of a glaciated valley. If the weather is fine, there's a good chance you will see rock climbers tackling the Idwal Slabs. After all the excitement and grandeur of Cwm Idwal, make your way back down the path back to you car but don't forget to have perhaps one of the best cups of hot chocolate in Wales from the...

I didn't see anyone wearing All-Terrain Flip Flops, but it was only a matter of time. Most other forms of inappropriate footwear were in use by the ridiculous number of people doing the loop path around the lake. The National Trust website says the three mile [moderate] walk will take you three hours. Maybe if you're the sort of person who goes up mountains in inappropriate footwear (with your laces tied together), but we managed it in 1 hr 20 mins. Personally I'd been looking for a three hour walk, so it was a bit disappointing to have travelled out for such a short walk. And it was also busier than I expected. Toilets and refreshment kiosk at the start. Parking (£3) is very limited. Head quarter of a mile east along the A5 and there is free parking in a large layby.
