Been there twice recently. The very first time I, my late wife and some relatives, went was many years ago, when we first moved to Pembrokeshire: Llys-y-Fran was then just a lake, a dam and a country park with a few rudimentary attractions added on. What a difference now..! On my second visit, in company with my granddaughter, her partner and their two toddlers, it had become a full blooded attraction, with a play area to delight the youngest child right up to the early teenager - and tire out grandparent AND parents. The food was good and could be eaten both in and outdoors (the weather was very fine). Obviously we did NOT attempt any of the walks..! There is SO much to do otherwise, that even perhaps on a not so nice day everyone could be kept well amused. Read the brochure available on the internet first before going.
My second visit this year, just two weeks after my first in late July, was made in company with my walking buddy, Graham; both of us aged 78 went to Llys-y-Fran intent on tackling the six mile walk. We actually ended up completing the seven-and-a-half mile walk - tired, but very proud of ourselves..! It IS a hard one, but very satisfying - especially to a pair of Old Codgers..! With a few quite short rest-periods and our trusty walking sticks to aid us, it was doable and became more picturesque at each bend in the pathway. Our leg muscles ached for three days afterwards...but as far as we were concerned it was veni, Vedi, vicci, Llys-y-Fran Dam Country Park... GO, I'm sure that at whatever age you are,...
Read moreWelsh Water have made this a lovely place to visit for everyone. There has been a lot of thought put into the site for families, those less able & the more active & adventurous visitor. The pay & display car park machines only seemed to be contactless by card & £3 seemed a little high as we were only there for a short coffee stop this time. Maybe there should be a tiered parking charge & I would only pay using cash not card. My friend paid by card. Also in the cafe, the electronic menu display scrolled far to fast to read. We were offered a printed copy but there was only 1 available. It would be lovely to be able to drive up to the car park on the otherside of the dam to get a good view of the reservoir as it was impossible to walk for my friend who is using a stick. The staff were all friendly & helpful. The buildings were clean &...
Read moreWe discovered this amazing place for the first time this week whilst on holiday locally. It has something for everyone of all ages and abilities. We walked a mile or so from the very busy cafe and kids play area and within a couple of minutes it was quiet and calm and perfect for bird watching, picnics and mindfulness. The toilets, shop and cafe are new, and you can hire so many different boats, bikes, paddle boards etc, at the nearby Activities Centre. Parking is £3.00. There were so many families with very excited children who couldn't wait to try our everything, and there were people of all ages enjoying this place. I totally recommend it, and we will definitely be returning there on our...
