One of my favourite places in the whole South coast BUT... school holidays it's absolutely rammed. And with that comes all the usual problems with families on holiday. Cars parked inconsiderately, dogs causing mayhem, completely ignoring signs to keep off the dunes, massive queues everywhere, taking up massive amounts of space on tables so nobody else can sit... you get the idea. Come back on a day when all the parents are back at work and the little darlings at school and it's lovely. The cafe serves great food, there's lots of information about the history and geology of the area, the beach has lovely soft sand, the dunes full of life - it's not unusual for a lizard to cross your path, the bay is sheltered and the tidal range is low so the sea safe to swim in. It easily rivals the best beaches in Devon...
Read moreThis is a most excellent National Trust beach where you can easily spend the whole day. Being NT there's a decent car park, a café and even a little shop. You've also got an equipment hire centre on site which means that you can get active if you're in the mood.
As a result Knoll Beach is pretty popular with families and for good reason. It stretches a good way in both directions, the sand is soft and water shallow enough for children - but not so shallow that you have to walk for miles to start swimming. All in all a great location in...
Read moreFantastic dog friendly beach (year round) with a large paid car park, toilet facilities, cafe, ice cream (at the cafe or via the ice cream boat, the latter is very expensive as you can imagine but convenient as they come right up to the beach), water sports centre and more. The beach is sandy. It stretches for miles so if you would like a bit more privacy you can walk further down the beach before setting up. It does get very busy so arrive early or mid afternoon to get a parking space....
