The Grotto Stourhead garden is a tranquil place to sit, relax and immerse yourself in 300 years of history. The lake is set amongst picture-perfect lawns, surrounded by trees. The different shades of green leaves on display throughtout spring and summer create a wonderful backdrop and the lakeside walk looks particularly fresh and vibrant after a shower. In autumn the garden becomes ablaze with firey reds through to gentle buttery yellows, and a walk around the garden at this time of year offers a sensory feast. A must visit place to enjoy with family...

One of Stourhead’s finest moments. Such a beautiful location with plenty of intertwining nature and sights to see. The Grotto is a well known and loved landmark of Stourhead which is easy to locate and to admire! Unfortunately, I don’t think that it’s wheelchair accessible. It’s placed right next to the lovely lake with gorgeous views from inside and outside the grotto. I would highly recommend stopping by and visiting this beautiful area...

Booked an early time slot to walk around Stourhead Gardens, was not disappointed! Although some section of the Grotto was cordoned off due to restoration works to fix the collapsed drainage under the Grotto, one can still walk through. The Grotto itself is a bit dank but the view of the lake is beautiful. Such a serene landscape bathed in natural colours.

Grottos were popular in Italian Renaissance gardens as places to escape from the summer heat. Stourhead's Grotto is a circular, domed chamber that was built to resemble a cave.
