Unfortunately our recent stay at the quiet site was not what we expected, we have stayed with various parks in the lakes at to be honest we were really looking forward to our stay we did not expect to come home with a very negative impression of the site and facilities, the long steep drive to the site along a single access road was a task to say the least the road is very very narrow and not well kept it was more like a back road this was not what we were expecting no safety lights or road markings, we eventually got to the site and we parked in the main site entrance and we greeted by a lovely girl who showed us to our plot which was next to a main road i voiced concerns as we had a young child and being located next to a main road would be less than ideal, we finally got hooked up and settled down , we were told prior to booking that this was a fully serviced plot however no water or sewage services were on our plot , I had to walk about 150 yards uphill to obtain water and also to dispose of waste. This was into the early evening we then experienced 5 power drops when trying to boil a kettle, I had to report this to the site owner who advised they needed to call an electrician , we had no power for about 3 hours, no heat , nothing with 2 kids it was terrible , we were using our batteries for light. The day we left we had to put both the water butt, sewage butt, and waste butt in our car as the disposal points were impossible to reach with the waste containers about 150 metres, I personally feel the reviews of the quiet site are honest however we cannot see how they dramatically differ from the basic facilities that were not available to us to make even a basic stay possible , we were however offered a 20 pound credit note to spend on site due to our power issues. I would have rather had 2 relaxing days as paid for. Unfortunately we will not be returning to the quiet site in the future, please do your homework before booking if you are thinking if hooking up a tourier as we did.
Response to comment left by owner,
many thanks for your reply however the time spent at your site was dreadfull yes the view was nice as is the view from most sites in the lake district. I feel you are getting to personal in your reply, this was a brief overview of our 2 day stay.
Please let me address your comments. Firstly I have toured most of the sites in Cumbria without the slightest issue , the main road was a main access road for traffic to various parts of your site and with small children this was not ideal so I asked to be moved as this would have been a problem for my 2 small children.
Secondly the tap you mentioned was frozen so could not be used so the next tap was 150 yards away downhill , however the water must be carried back uphill.
Your point about the electrics has me puzzled are you saying I cannot boil a Kettle and have heating at the same time without the electrics going off?
The 20 pound credit note was spent on 3 bottles of beer and a couplf 9f very overpriced toys for my kids actually I do not drink myself and the beer was a present.
I feel your attitude towards negative comments is very unprofessional and rather upset my wife when she read them
We do not leave negative comments just comments for improvement gewhich I hope you take on board this is the reason for the feedback section isn't it? . Lastly actually I advised your staff of the issues ie location and electrical problems etc that's the reason the electrician was called out to change fuses etc he also advised that the current setup you have needs replacing as it is very old and not fit for modern vans. I feel your site overall has some issues with could be solved easily however just pretending they are not there and insinuating that your customer's are somehow confused alcoholics is ridiculous. We will not be returning to your site based on our experience over the weekend and do hope you take our feedback on board.
You have my telephone number if you would like to give me a call.

Read moreSo, this was a time for my fiance and myself to unwind from the hustle and bustle of life. It literally is going backwards in time. I wish we could have stayed longer, but that was not the case due to commitments we had back home.
We stayed in the Gingerbread House for almost 48 hours
So, looking at some reviews, I mean I am just going to go straight in and say this, this isn't a 5 star hotel, this is a campsite, and so everything is basic. But for basic, I thoroughly enjoyed it.
Here is what you get
Underfloor heating all using natural resources if I am correct A huge bed with an interesting mattress, you will either love it or hate it. The same happens when you are camping. In my view, it was brilliant. A kettle, a microwave and a fridge. A sink, a shower, a proper working toilet indoors so you don't have to dig a hole. A couple shelves, a table indoors and a big dinner table outdoors with a couple of relaxing chairs to enjoy what I would say is spectacular views.
Now there is a stone that is used for your BBQ. My recommendation is to take a couple of gas stoves with you. And be nice, cook outside.
But, and here is why I came. I wanted everything set up, so that my fiance and I can unwind. The air is super fresh, the views are brilliant, and although it wasn't silly season, from what I could see, you would be private to a huge degree, and yet, not be intrusive to others. Small details like how the outdoor lights work and not shine outwards, so not to bother others around you.
For the mobile phone stuck to your hands because you need to see the latest update on Facebook, the WiFi is pretty good. You can stick your kids in front of the iPad and they would be entertained all day
But what's the point? My fiance had never experienced a walk outdoors to see nature, to experience running water so close. We did a walk in a spot called Aira Falls. Absolutely brilliant
There are a lot of things to be done around there, come rain, sunshine or just a normal English summer.
If I have a small criticism, it's that I wish there was a shelf, a hanging one or something to store the soaps when you are in the shower. An extra shelf or two just for a bit more placement areas for space in the indoor section would go amiss.
But I cannot complain and that's why you guys get 5 stars.
Oh, if you need to know. The staff are brilliant. You are personally ushered to your sleeping spot, you will be told how it all works, and you never get bothered again. Very helpful and always willing to help.
If management does read this, may I ask if you could be so kind as to pass on my gratitude for two members who helped store a bunch of flowers overnight, and was ready to pass it onto me an hour earlier than opening times? I am super grateful for that and my fiance too. She had an amazing time there as well
Thank you to all who made our mini break super relaxing and wishing you all the...
Read moreA really lovely campsite where you can really see the care and attention the owners put in. We stayed as a family of 2 adults and 2 children in one of the burrows (formally hobbit hole) for 3 nights. The communication before going was very good, with a comprehensive welcome pack emailed with information about local transport and road closures. All off the staff were polite and helpful the whole time.
On site is a lovely pub with a roaring fire. There's a good drinks selection and a games room leading off it. The shower block is of very high quality, better than hotels we've stayed in. We used the drying room every night to dry off our walking boots and waterproof items after walking. The site is very environmentally conscious, with a bit recycling centre and the shop runs like a refil shop, where you can grab any essentials you may have forgotten. The campers kitchen had some spare crockery that you could borrow (which we did), as well as fridges, freezers and microwaves (no hob or ovens). There is an onsite food place that does delicious wood fired pizzas on an evening and breakfast buns on a morning.
Our burrow was perfect for what we needed for camping. The view was amazing and I enjoyed breakfast outside every morning overlooking the lake and listening to the birds. Outside is a picnic bench and 2 chairs, as well as a BBQ stone. Inside was roomy and there was a bed space that comfortably slept all 4 of us, and there was room under the benches to store your things, as well as storage shelves. It came complete with a kettle, small fridge and microwave. There was also a toilet and sink. We brought along our toaster and electric hotplate so it was easy to cook a simple meal. The layout of the burrow had clearly been thought through carefully, with extra light switches by the bed and plenty of plug sockets and coat hooks. At first I couldn't work out why you'd need so many coat hooks, but it was perfect for hanging up all our towels, coats and waterproofs. The little things were also thought of, like it came complete with a loo roll, small piece of handmade soap and there was a tote bag, handy for grabbing items from the shop. The best thing about the burrow was the fact it was heated, by far the thing that makes camping more enjoyable.
We loved the campsite and would highly recommend it. It is on the more expensive side, but you definitely get what you pay for and every little thing has been thought of by the owners. The site also has no group bookings and a policy of being quiet between 10pm and 8am, which is perfect for families. We'd definitely return for a...
