I spent the night at ‘The Quiet Site’, a caravan/campervan site which just happens to be at the foot of Little Mell Fell, perfect for the walk up. It’s January and it’s freezing cold but I am treated to a glorious sunrise, the sky turning slowly into Gold just before our very own star rises up over the Far Eastern Fells marking the start of a brand new day. I leave the campsite with the Sun defrosting the ground and warming my bones and walk the kilometre or so up the lane to the top of the road, known as the Hause . From the Hause the path for Little Mell Fell can be clearly seen, going through a gate and heading up the hill at a fairly steep incline. Wainwright, in typical style rather dismisses the walk up from the Hause and its fair to say that there is nothing particularly remarkable or memorable on the way up other than a well worn set of foot marks to plant your boots into. After a short while the top, marked by a Trig Pillar with a little frozen moat around it is reached. It is a bright, clear Winters day morning and considering its small stature, the view from the top is remarkably  extensive. Cross Fell and the Northern Pennines can be seen clearly far away across the Eden Valley with a dusting of snow on their tops. Below, the Silver ribbon of Ullswater glistens in the morning Sun. To the South, Great Dodd, Stybarrow Dodd and other mountains stand out with rather more substantial snow covering their higher ground. For more visit my website, details in...

Nice easy climb. Came up from the western side following a farm track near foxhill farm. This was fairly easy to find and follow however past the top of the track we had to just head in the general direction of the summit across the fields. We decended off the southern side on a very defined track. Good views from the top with a...

Fun walk but quite steep, bring your hiking boots or good trainers with you just in case, trust me you are absolutely going to want them. The view is pretty good but breathtaking, the trails though are really nice. Would recommend once if you have an...

From The Hause, parking for about 3-4 cars. Through a gate and then a good sharp climb up for about 20 minutes to the top and the trig point. For a small hill, it commands some good views of the fells around.

Nice little steepish fell, tad boggy in places but a few different paths up and back down. Was a glorious November afternoon with 360 views! Always good to have a trig on top 😁
