This review is written from the point of view of a parent with 2 and 4 year old boys who love adventures.

This waterfall is the perfect spot for a little family adventure. If you've come from the other side of Buttertubs Pass (with a quick stop at the top to see the "butter tubs"), the drive to get there is stunning, if a little scary for those who don't like heights.

The waterfall is in a beautifully picturesque setting. It's obviously a popular spot for wildlife photography, as there were a fair few photographers there when we arrived.

There is good access down to the edge of the river via some steps. Although not fully accessible, those with mobility issues can still get a good view of the falls from the road. You don't even really need to get out of your car!

But for those who like adventure, as my boys (and there Mummy and I) do, you can get right down next to the water and walk along. Also, we were there in a fairly dry season so we could walk right out on the riverbed stones which was great fun. I would imagine this would not be possible if you visited after a season of lots of rain. But I guess you'd get a more powerful waterfall to watch.

We'd bought sweets from a sweet shop in Hawes so sat on some big riverbed rocks and ate them as the water trickled around us. It's a great place to stop and have a picnic and there are loads of natural features and scenic photo opportunities.

In summary, this is not the biggest waterfall in the area, but doesn't cost you anything to access and is right next to the road, so perfect for young children who love adventures but can't...

stunning scenery of our North Yorkshire natural treasures, these falls comprise of easily above 5+ falls (I've not witnessed any on such a scall as high force) however these roaming falls are equally as stunning.. all created along the early stages of the river swale during its plunging trip throughout the valleys of swaledale. Again these valleys have equally stunning sights further falls along the road side "easily visible for all" (just be careful due to the roads being pretty narrow... locals are always happy & cheerful) I've captured only 1 of the falls with palns to venture back when theres better light & maybe abit warmer for the nose, ears & fingers "-1 isn't to pretty to sit motionless holding the camera to try to avoid motion blurr "Yes I forgot my tri-pod"

a safety note!!! if your at a sensible age, playing around these falls please be very careful & take serious precautions. don't venture into water you cant clearly see the bottom, the water is fast moving (this time of year VERY VERY cold 28.11.2017) some falls along this route do have deep pools at the base, still with cold water... serious note someone has died earlier in the year after jumping into a pool from one of the falls..

anyway, this is a great place to bring the family & relax... you can camp in a local site (prices I'm not aware of but you can find them on local listings etc) local villages themselves look great if not from another world... hope you enjoy my currently limited set...

Absolutely awesome scenery ,rolling hills of swaledale ,and the glorious falls of the river swale.round about 7 or 8 waterfalls,,which are stunning, dont miss this place.Roads can be really narrow, people friendly ,but no mobile reception.we stayed at swaledale yurts, which u can also pitch tents,it has three toilet blocks with shower n toilet and sink,in each one lovely hot showers,a kitchen area with use of fridge, pots pans, microwave, pans crockery, also the hire of a private jacuzzi,£20 for 90mins, fantastic at the end of the day watching the sunset from a hot bubbly jacuzzi,,cooked meals from the owners kitchen made to order, definitely be back again.5...

This was a spectacular find. We came from Richmond, through Reeth and headed towards Thwaite and Angram. The cottages on the way are gorgeous, perched on the valley edge with what must be unbelievable views from their living room windows. Lots of tent camping sites on the way and some wild camping sites with minimal amenities. Parking here is tight as the roads are single track with passing places. We did think the falls were going to be a bit underwhelming but they are impressive and they go down steam for a long way with the most amazing stone features from the weathering over the ages. Bring a picnic it is peaceful and tranquil. We will be back.

Amazing swimming spot. I passed by it on my walk but came back to it in the evening when it was much quieter. There were still a few people there but it was much busier in the early afternoon. It is quite easy to get to from the road but there is limited parking. There is all day parking at the campsite in Keld if you don't mind a fairly short walk for about £3 for the day. The water was beautiful once you got in and I could have stayed in for hours. I went in the weekday outside of school holidays when you can expect it to be much busier. The water is very deep so keep an eye on any children you might have with you.
