Probably my favourite place to walk the dogs. The parking can get congested, particularly at weekends, and the paths are uneven and can be very muddy at times. But it's a beautiful little common you can get around in a little under an hour, but can take a lot longer if you explore the extended routes. There's a pond at the far end (if you're starting off from the Salt Box Rd carpark) through the woods. This can get very low in periods of drought, and the water will be quite smelly during these times (for those dogs who like the water). Please note that, during long hot summers, the common undergrowth gets very dry and is particularly vunerable to casually discarded cigarettes etc. There have been three significant fires here in recent years, one quite recently, causing devastation to trees, vegetation and wildlife.
