Great waterside walk through this atmospheric deep valley (Gill). Occasionally muddy, but great path with loads of wooden bridges and well cut steps to take you right up to the waterfall at Little Roar. The main waterfall (Old Roar) is inaccessible, but there is a footpath leading from the nearby housing estate that crosses the top of it, so you can hear it, if not see it as it's too overgrown. Read moreIf you go to the map location for Old Roar Ghyll, you will cross over it on a little footbridge, but there isn't much to see. However, if you go to the road bridge in St Helens Road, take the footpath just past the bridge on the right (as you go down the hill) then turn hard left as soon as you can on the footpath, you will walk underneath the road bridge and along a valley full of ferns and dripping springs. Read moreLovely walk through the woods from the bridge and underneath it or you can walk straight up from Alexandra Park. Very old Ghyll gully with huge ferns and plants, you almost expect a dinosaur to run by! You will see a water fall on the way but keep going along the footpath and wooden bridges to the viewing platform. There is still a trickle of water but probably looks much better after a heavy rain. The paths are narrow, tricky and slippery even in drier weather so unsuitable for buggies...
