Interesting place. It is fascinating how it's still standing after 200 years, even with trains rattling above! It was very peaceful and quiet when I visited on a weekday. I parked in a parking area a couple of miles down the canal and walked up the canal path, which I believe takes you to kendal. However, I took a detour through Levens hall and deer park and then along the river Kent to see the falls. A mostly flat hike, small climb on the horse path going over Hincaster Hill as you can not enter the tunnel. Great area for hiking, plenty of decent paths, and some small free parking areas.

Hincaster Tunnel is a well preserved relic of the early Victorian era canal system. The paths and trails leading to it are overgrown making walking to it a challenge. The paths do go up and over small hills to allow you to get here. The nearby Lancaster canal sections still with water are a much better and well kept path you share with cyclists, and runners.

Good walks around here as well as along the canal towards Kendal and Lancaster. Very peaceful, just the mainline train passings. Good for trainspotting as well as wildlife. Sedgwick worth a visit.

Very interesting listed monument. Canal tunnel on the derelict section of the Lancaster Canal between Tewitfield (near Carnforth) and Kendal. There is no access through the tunnel because there was no towpath, but there is a bit of water in it still. The horses which used to tow boats used the horse-path over the top. You can walk that path and the towpath either side along the remains of the canal. Both portals can be viewed. Lancaster Canal Trust are hoping to fully...
