On first arriving to the complex it was well presented and I was welcomed by a staff member who checked we in and informed how to get to the pool I had booked on to for 3 days and all was well until arriving at the peg. It was very visible that the maintenance of this pool and the other pools here were lacking, the pathways were almost completely invisible due to over growing grass and weed so navigating your barrow is a challenge. Now I’m not one for total grooming of the natural environment but this was a little ridiculous. On my peg the cradles were just very old and worn (this wasn’t just mine it was the same on the other pegs too) the landing nets were full of rat holes and almost impossible to use. At night amount of rats running around was ridiculous and this was obviously why the landing nets were so badly damaged due to rats biting holes in them. As far as the fishing goes the fish are in pretty good condition I court a couple so far so good. Then about 9.30 on the second night I had just set my rods for the night and the bailiff come around this was a very long faced chap apparently the owner he did keep saying anyway !. I made him aware of the damaged landing nets to which he took offence for some reason and became defensive about them. I was asked to remove my rods from the water for a rig check but I am a fully compliant rule fisher this was fully within the fishery rules and he became a little bit miffed, he asked me if I wanted a refund and asked me to leave if I wasn’t happy his attitude was totally off the scale and reminded me of a school play ground bully and for this I was not being spoken to by such a person. My experience means I won’t be returning.

Just about to finish my third trip to Commonwood Fishery and once again, it didn’t disappoint! The whole site is really well maintained – the fishery is clean, as are the pegs, and the provided nets, slings, and cradles are top quality, saving you the hassle of bringing your own. Facilities on site are great too – there’s a shower (small charge), food like pizzas and burgers, and even beer on tap. The breakfasts are a real highlight – freshly made and delivered straight to your peg if you ask! I’ve previously fished and caught on Snowdon and Weston lakes, but this time I was on Llawellan. Over a 4-day session, I’ve had 15 fish, all in fantastic condition, ranging from 10lb up to a cracking 25lb 5oz. Huge thanks to Paul the owner – always helpful – and to Tony the bailiff, who’s friendly, funny, and a real asset to the place. Another great few days – I’ll definitely be back!

Absolutely lovely place , my partner comes fishing here and I bring my 3 year old to the children’s fishing pond at the front ! We visit around twice a month for the full weekend ! We have camped & stayed in the lodges and thoroughly enjoyed both The food is amazing every time Kerry & Anna especially are lovely and make great food and ice coffees! Tony is great and very knowledge about the fishing side of things ! This is a family based business and you can really tell as they are so welcoming 😊 Bouncy castle and live singers in the holidays / weekends goes down a treat with my son! Even the dog gets the bonus’s 🍦

Our trip began with a mistake on our part as when signing in, we didn't read the rule that stated we would have 2 hours max at the lake. This rule was not verbally given to us by the staff either. We signed in at 10.30am and we mentioned that we would need to leave site to pick up a family member at 12.00pm and would return to the lake - we were told this was fine, we were not told our time would nearly be up by then. Upon returning to site with our extra family member we were finally told that our time was up. We argued this case as this had not been made clear enough upon arrival. The attitude of the owner was appalling! Firstly she stood eating an ice cream throughout our exchange, which I thought was very unprofessional. She spoke rudely and attempted to end our conversation by saying she wasn't going to stand here all day talking whilst her ice cream melts! Comments were also made that we had made a 'mess' on the grass. What she was referring to was 4 camping chairs, 2 picnic blankets and a couple of bags - our stuff, not 'mess'. She said that none of this was allowed however this was not stated in the rules and neither were there signs anywhere so how were we to know? Eventually she allowed us 45 minutes over our time, apparently as a kind gesture (debatable) so that we could finish up and leave. Upon leaving I asked the owner for a copy of the complaints policy, I was told I would have to come back Monday for that. She continued to speak rudely to us. I was accused of 'coming at her' and 'staring her out' as well as being 'condescending'. When in fact, I spoke calmly but firmly throughout our whole exchange. In her role as front of house that day, her customer service skills were absolutely appalling, including making a gesture opening and closing her hands at my husband to suggest that he was talking too much. She admitted that the member of staff who signed us in was a new employee and has now been told to make this time limit clear to customers - I think this proves that it wasn't just us completely in the wrong. The lake was quiet, it wouldn't have caused any issues for them to show some kindness and allow us to stay, with a reminder of the time limit for next time. After having read other reviews for this venue, it is clear that other customers have found themselves being treated in the same way. I have also noticed that the company likes to snap back at reviewers in the comments - just proves us all right really! Business owners who treat paying customers like this, do not...

Avoid!! We came to look at this site in May to check out its facilities etc before booking, after having looked around we decided it was perfect for us, although we couldn’t see camping available to book online we waited for the owner Julie to come and done the booking direct with her for 24/07/25, we then done another booking for a pod on 20/06/2025 for my parents after showing them around on a second visit. 2 days before we were due to arrive I contact them via email to check what time we could arrive from to set up our tent, I then received a response claiming there was no booking and that they only allow tents on bank holidays, my husband then spoke to someone different who was adamant that we were not allowed to camp and there was no booking! After numerous back and forth via email the booking was then confirmed.. 9pm the night before my husband gets another text claiming our booking was not honoured and it shouldn’t have been confirmed and that we will be refunded. It’s now the day we are due to arrive which was yesterday 24/07 I get another email checking the details of the pod 🤯 like what the hell is going on here… I spoke to the person on email who confirmed it’s ok & we are booked and can arrive at 1pm and that Julie is cancelling with my husband via text which is strange as she booked it with us in person after commenting ‘now I’ve seen you in person I’m happy to book this for you’ WOULD NOT RECOMMEND - summer holidays stranded with 3 children and having to find somewhere else at such...
