PENRHOS NATURE RESERVE HOLYHEAD...THIS NATURE RESERVE IS UNDER THREAT FROM DEVELOPMENT....A COMPANY WANT TO BUILD 500 CABINS ON THE HEADLAND AND IN THE WOODLANDS...FELLING ALMOST 30 ACRES OF TREES...THEREFORE DESTROYING MUCH OF THE ENVIRONMENT AND BIODIVERSITY......JOIN US TO FIGHT THIS On facebook.....'Save Penrhos Nature Park Holyhead'

This Nature Reserve is a free amenity to the public open every day. The 200 acres of trees, walkways and Meadow Land are all waiting to be explored. The whole area is an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty (AONB) and is on the Welsh Heritage Coastline, with one of the prettiest beaches on Anglesey.... How many Nature Reserves has it's own Beach? Penrhos was originally a beautiful Mansion owned by the Owen and Stanley family from Holyhead in the early 1700's, part of the ruins still remain among the woodland. There are over 15.000 trees mostly broadleaved. The Beddmanarch Bay/Inland Sea is an SSSI and the Welsh Coastal Path takes you right the way around the Reserve. The Reserve is home to many hundreds of species of birds, animals, reptiles, bats, Badgers and the reintroduced Red Squirrel. There are three lovely ponds, to watch ducks and many wading birds that visit from all over the world. This place should not be missed there is so much History and so much to see. The Original Toll House at the entrance has been renovated and made into a bespoke cafe. There are public toilets in the car park with space for approx 100 cars and free parking at all times. Penrhos has it all Sea birds and wildlife, Ornithologist and Tv Wildlife Presenter Iolo Williams says that Penrhos Nature Reserve is a Magnificent place to visit and whilst he lived on Anglesey he visited and brought his children there on many occasions. There are places and tables for picnics, a burger van throughout the year and summer months an ice cream van. If you're visiting HOLYHEAD or The Isle of Anglesey Do not miss this treasure....you can spent hours here and I can promise you, you will fall in love and want to visit many times. That's the Magic of PENRHOS NATURE RESERVE...

Perfect dog walk when it's sunny 🌞 can dip in & out of the enchanting forest too & get some shade. Frequent waste bins for doggy doodoo. Lovely beach/coastal path which is suitable for prams/wheelchairs. Think there is a bacon roll van there at weekends. There is a war memorial & lots of benches & picnic tables. Sorry, forgot to picture them as I was enjoying sitting in the sun overlooking the sea. The remains of old derelict buildings hiding in the trees are part of the original grand country house and its associated facilities .

Other historical estate buildings from the early 19th century still stand (some in ruins), including: • Bailiff’s Tower with boundary wall and gates • Barn & cart sheds • The intriguingly named “Betting Stand” or “Rotten Tower”, built as a vantage point for horse racing on the estate • Candle Tower along with service courtyard walls • Water Tower • The Battery, likely a defensive folly constructed during the Napoleonic Wars • Tower, walls, and courtyard buildings associated with the service areas of the mansion.

Good paths, well maintained. A mountain bike track too. Decent size car park which I believe is free. Lovely smell of wild garlic this time of year. In the words of my...

This is a stunning spot to park up and have a spot of lunch - there are lots of picnic benches just beyond the car park and a cafe near the entrance. The walk is suitable for prams in the forest, but not out towards the headland as there is only a very bumpy grass path. You could spend around an hour walking here exploring the different paths in the forest. There is also a small beach you can walk along too near the car park, and well as another left of the headland. The toilets were locked when we went in mid-week, mid-September and there was a large map on the wall for info. Parking was free and plenty of it at this time. There is a cafe there, but we took a packed lunch with us to keep costs low. Nice walk and much less exposed to the elements in the forest than on the headland - we even spotted a red squirrel! If the toilets had been open, this would have been a five...

A beautiful Country Park but with beaches right along half of it, we only visited once so only really seen a very small part of what seems like a very large park where you could walk a different path each day of the week. A few days after visiting we were astonished, also disgusted to find that the park is under threat of development for holiday lodges. Why? There’s plenty of accommodation of all types on the island, but also on the mainland too, and if they keep developing these pure beautiful places then there’ll be nowhere for any holidaymakers to visit whilst on the island and will eventually just stop coming.
