Buchan Country Park is an absolute gem nestled in the heart of West Sussex, offering a perfect escape into nature for visitors of all ages. From the moment you step into the park, you’re greeted by lush greenery, serene woodlands, and a sense of tranquility that instantly melts away the stresses of everyday life. The park spans over 170 acres, providing ample space for exploration, relaxation, and outdoor activities, making it a must-visit destination for nature lovers and families alike.

One of the standout features of Buchan Country Park is its well-maintained walking trails. Whether you’re looking for a leisurely stroll or a more challenging hike, the park has something for everyone. The trails wind through beautiful woodlands, open meadows, and around a picturesque pond, offering stunning views and plenty of opportunities to spot local wildlife. The park is particularly magical in the spring and summer months when the wildflowers are in full bloom, and the trees are lush and green.

Families will love the park’s thoughtful amenities, including a fantastic children’s play area that’s perfect for younger visitors to burn off some energy. There are also plenty of picnic spots scattered throughout the park, making it an ideal location for a family day out. The park’s friendly and welcoming atmosphere ensures that everyone feels at home, and the clean, well-kept facilities add to the overall positive experience.

For those interested in history, Buchan Country Park has a fascinating past, with remnants of its time as a clay pit still visible in certain areas. Informative signage throughout the park provides insights into its history and ecology, adding an educational element to your visit.

What truly sets Buchan Country Park apart is its sense of community. The park hosts various events throughout the year, from guided nature walks to seasonal celebrations, fostering a strong connection between visitors and the natural world. The staff and volunteers are incredibly passionate and knowledgeable, always ready to offer a warm welcome or share interesting facts about the park.

In conclusion, Buchan Country Park is a delightful destination that offers something for everyone. Its natural beauty, excellent facilities, and welcoming atmosphere make it a place you’ll want to return to time and time again. Whether you’re seeking adventure, relaxation, or simply a breath of fresh air, this park is a true haven that deserves all the praise...

Buchan Country Park: The Quiet Achiever of Day Trips

Buchan Country Park isn’t here to shout about itself. It doesn’t need to. No flashy playgrounds, no café selling seven types of cake – just pure, unfiltered nature doing its thing. This is the countryside equivalent of a friend who’s low-key brilliant but doesn’t feel the need to brag about it.

First off, the tranquillity. You step out of your car, and it’s like the world just collectively decided to take a deep breath. Birds chirping, leaves rustling, and maybe a dog barking in the distance. It’s so peaceful that even the ducks seem chill – no gang behaviour here, just polite paddling and the occasional quack of approval.

The walking trails are a delight. Whether you’re after a gentle stroll or a more ambitious trek, there’s something for everyone. The paths weave through woods, around lakes, and past grassy clearings where you’ll inevitably find someone lying on a blanket pretending they’re in a movie. Keep an eye out for wildlife – squirrels darting around like they’ve had too much coffee and, if you’re lucky, a heron doing its best impression of a nature documentary star.

Speaking of the lakes, they’re the highlight. Beautiful, serene, and just begging to be photographed. You’ll find yourself staring at the water like it’s a portal to another world. Occasionally, a duck or swan will glide by, and you’ll feel like you’re in a postcard. Bonus points if you manage to resist the urge to narrate their movements like David Attenborough.

For dog owners, this place is basically paradise. Pooches of all shapes and sizes bouncing around like they’ve won the lottery, tails wagging furiously. It’s a joyous sight, even if you don’t have a dog yourself. (Though you may leave wishing you did.)

And then there’s the lack of a café. Yes, you read that right. At Buchan, you bring your own snacks – a throwback to simpler times when a Thermos of tea and a slightly squashed sandwich were all you needed. Pro tip: pack biscuits. The ducks might not ask for them, but you’ll want them after all that walking.

Buchan Country Park is a hidden gem. It’s not flashy, it’s not loud, but it’s exactly what you need when the world feels a bit much. Five stars – for the peaceful vibes, the photogenic lakes, and the squirrels who absolutely...

So love going there with my family.Long walks on Sundays afternoon breathing fresh air. There's a free parking and even a man was selling hot drinks in a van the last time we went. We saw some beautiful bluebells and even saw a young deer jumping in front of us through the woods. The kids were delighted. There're benches to sit and relax after your walk.Great view of the lake but sadly there were only 2 ducks. It would be more pleasant for the kids to enjoy if there were more ducks and even some swans. Great to walk the dogs but they should be kept on leads. Our kids love going to this place to pretend "We're going on a bear hunt".They love that book so much and its just the right place to feel like we're in the book. Loads of fabulous trees.Very beautiful to take pictures there too.You can have a picnic there as there're some tables and benches in the picnics area. But really you can sit anywhere with a picnic blanket down. There's a public toilet. The parking opened at 8.30 and is locked at 9pm. There're no outdoor toys in a play area for kids. But if you love the nature and got great imaginations, the kids will definetely have lots of fun. My youngest always like to bring a bag with her to pick dead leaves, acorns, dry sticks, dry flowers and rocks to bring home for her crafting time.So check this place soon and...

Good coffee facilities, toilets and plenty of dog poo bins. Paid for parking which is fair enough as it goes towards upkeep. The route around and down the middle towards Douster pond where your dog can have a dip in the water are all pretty good paths. Not tarmac or anything but pretty firm for those who may have issues walking, like me, and paths seem to be getting further improved. It can have more slippery, muddy paths in poor conditions, so wear boots, but the paths hold up pretty well. Dog can be off leash once you have crossed the bridge to the park, and so far, quite a lot of dogs, all sociable. And with lots of trees to run through for the dog, this is a great go to place for a sociable dog walk. People generally good about putting dog poo into the many bins, although there’s always the odd one who doesn’t. Note, there can be a few fishermen around the lakes, so if your dog likes the smell of fish, and fish air, as much as mine, be aware! This is great, and much needed, for dogs to stretch their legs. <edit: I have removed a few of my original opinions based upon a fair response from Buchan Park. On reflection I think I was having a mid-Pandemic ‘grump’. This is a great place for a walk!>
