We really enjoyed our day at the Nene Valley Railway even though it was a rainy day. Parked up at the Wansford station, which is actually nearer to Stibbington, and is just off the A1. The station building is lovely with lots of interesting photos to look at. Very nice cafe with a reasonable choice of food. The volunteers were all very welcoming and the outfits are top notch. No steam trains running when we visited but the little Swedish train was a gem. We went through to Peterborough where its just a short walk alongside the river into the centre of town. On our next visit we will visit the nature reserve that also has a model railway, didn't realise this existed, so that's something to look forward to. You can get off at Ferry Meadows and Yarwell to explore the area If you're a geocacher you'll be in your element as there are loads of geocaches to find. All in all a lovely day out for everyone.

It is Heritage railway using old discontinued tracks, run by experienced retired people of national railways staying in nearby places, doing good perfect maintenance and attracting crowds, generating funds to do maintenance and earn livelihood. It is using all old steam and diesel engines, manual signalling systems, following all standard operating procedures of old times. They do not run far long just about 2.3 stations and back but the the whole experience takes you backin the past era of 19th century worth experiencing..

Staff aways friendly and helpful. Nice journey and the chance to see the locomotives close as they swap ends at Peterborough and Yarwell. If time allows and you take the first train a chance to stop and visit Ferry Meadows park from Overton station on a sunny day is always a good choice.

Lots to see and do, theres a little gift shop and tearooms. Lots of toilets available, parking was easy and right next to the station so not far to walk. The little miniature town with running trains was very popular. It kept my daughter entertained for ages watching the trains going round and spotting the different character figurines around the town. Staff all very nice and extremely helpful. Option to hop on and off the trains to see the different stations and pick it back up on its return, we were given a detailed timetable when collecting our tickets. Old trains everywhere to look at and some you can get inside. Lovely scenery on the train ride, bar on board selling snacks, hot, cold and alcoholic drinks. Went with my parents and my daughter and we all had a brilliant day, would...

A wonderful heritage railway (not a museum) from Peterborough to Yarwell Junction That has friendly, helpful staff on the stations platforms, trains. Also has a range of (steam, diesel) engines, lovely stations along it linne. At Wansford station there is a cafe, shop and engine shed. Wansford Garden Model Railway is next to the cafe, engine turntable. Step off the train at Yarwell Junction, enter a park. The railway holds various events during the year that has guest/visiting engines (Nigel Gresley , Flying Scotsman) vehicles (buses, cars). This railway has been used as a location for various productions from Queen music video (Breakthru) to London's Burning, 2...
