Just went to sit in carpark and have a cup of tea....But went for a walk my wife who has walking probs managed about 100yards all in.... So went and had a second drink.... got talking to a gent from the park ..and ended up with my wife having a driving lesson on a mobility scooter. Passing first time and then taking the scooter out for an hour..... Many many thanks to the gent there for taking the time and understanding to help my wife so the next time we visit it will be so much easier To go around. O and Paxton is such a quite area we sat on two lots of seats and could not hear a thing . The birds were busy gathering nesting materials and singing to there hearts content. A small cafe is on site they do not do cooked food but tea and cakes and biscuits. Staff very friendly Will definitely be going there again. You can become a friend of Paxton pits for a very reasonable price per year to help support them in the...

Great nature reserve along the edge of the River Ouse built around gravel workings, with some good trails and a really excellent visitor centre.

Gravel working in the area has restarted and there are lorries accessing that area but it affects the reserve little.

Good birdwatching and walks. Parking pretty good but can get a bit tight now and then when there are people visiting the separate Education Centre, itself a really good facility for schools.

Worth a visit. Volunteer staffed refreshments counter in the Visitor Centre doing welcome tea, coffee & cup-a-soups plus a few goodies in the chocolate & flapjack line. Second hand book sales go towards the provision and maintenance of hides, benches, paths etc. Plenty of seating indoors and outdoors.

There's also an active Friends of Paxton Pits group and Conservation Volunteer teams plus the Visitor Centre volunteers. All in all a positive place to visit...

Pleanty of parking. Toilets and small cafe/Information place. Small are to eat, in sun or a few under shade. Some lovely lakes, to watch wild waterbirds. When we were there, some avid birdwatchers were taking pictures of a kingfisher, sitting in the open, on a branch, looking for dinner. Beautiful! We saw Swan n cygnets, cormorants, ducks, little egret and a bigger egret, herons, etc etc. Lots of other birds as a novice, I can't identify! Choice of walks, all on the flat, most on good wide paths. So you can chose how far you wish to walk. We took our black lab, poppy, and picked up after her. I am saddened to see, that other dog owners, have not. You inconciderate few, give us conscientious many, such a bad name. Please, pick up, after your dog. There is a lovely river running through, you can get to bits of it, here, and there, too see river boats go by, and watch the wild life. It's a really nice...

Lovely big nature reserve with different areas and trails. Lakes, ponds, meadows. Obviously cared for by passionate people. Good clean toilets. Some great touches...umbrellas to borrow and an all terrain mobility scooter. Visitor centre dependant on volunteer. Think they could make more of cafe...better quality snacks and even a sandwich fridge? Education centre wasn't open despite it being a special open day, and I think it would have been lovely to have more stuff to do for children using that space (not just for schools). Great for photographers and wildlife spotters. It's free, as is parking so certainly recommend going. Also check out their events (though going between friends of paxton pits and BCN websites is confusing to find stuff!)

My second home. Walk around the many lakes and pits chewing over life's grissles with dog Leia. Judging by the swarms of twitchers suspect its a jewell for our feathered friends and have many a time spotted a kingfisher or two. Dogs are off course welcome and on a spring or summers day you stumble across the sailing lake, fear not for the outragious blue hue to it, this isnt algae. Its a blue dye the sailors pour into the lake apparently! Lastly walk alo g the river path and you might stumble across a dozen highland cattle. Parking is free and a coffee shop is often open. If you enjoyed the day. Become a Paxton friend and help reserves like this one continue to flourish.

I was house-sitting for the weekend & wanted to visit a Nature Reserve not too far away. Read the reviews & I agree Paxton Pits Nature Reserve is a little gem. The staff in the visitor centre were friendly & helpful. The walks took you past meadow, woods, riverside & lakeside, each offering sounds & sights of nature. So many swans, geese & ducks, a deer making a quick getaway, herons patiently waiting for a snack to pass by. There are hides giving a good view. Definitely will be back for a longer visit. There is a large car park, tho it does have a few potholes so drive carefully.
