Chapman’s Pool is a stunning fossil hunting beach in Dorset. It is the absolute perfect location for wowing the kids with prehistoric finds in the clay cliffs. There is a small stretch of sandy beach when the tide is out otherwise it’s quite a pebbly, sea-weedy kind of experience. The stretch of water is beautiful although it’s not much of a swimming or boarding beach, not least because of it’s accessibility. There is a good carpark at the top and then a good 10 minute walk across some fields and down a steep valley. There are a couple of access points, one which is so steep there is a rope attached to help you navigate the path, the other is more gentle but either way you’re looking at a challenging walk so it’s not for the faint hearted! There are no facilities at the beach or life guards and you’ll need to be mindful of the tide for the further stretches of the beach but I couldn’t recommend it more highly for fossil hunting and a bit of crab discovery.. brilliant for active and capable kids.....
Read moreChapmans Pool is one of the quiet and beautiful beaches in Dorset. Please navigate to the “Renscombe Car Park” and try to get in early as this parking has limited spaces. If your car is low drive slowly when you get to the off road approaching the car park. The road near the car park has hidden dips. So please drive slowly to avoid any damages to your car. The car park is free but you can contribute if you wish to do so. You need to walk south and follow the path down the hill to get to the Chapmans Pool beach . I would advise to take the standard path if you are travelling with kids. If you want to visit Winspit Quarry please avoid the costal path. Please get back to the car park and then follow the sign to the Winspit Quarry. Chapmans Pool has very lovely views and I’m sure you will love it.
