Beautiful and well kept, although there are darker and possibly dangerous sides (steep inclines) to the park if you go down the wrong path...
These parts of the park aren't somewhere you should go alone!!! Although, you are at one with nature and the large trees and shrubs are a haven for wildlife, if your mind starts working overtime, your head will be continuously doing 360 degrees with every branch you break underfoot.
Parts of the park will lead you out into the Lockwood Graveyard and into the back yards of some beautiful examples of unspoiled architectural properties of Huddersfield... These are private properties and were stumbled upon in error!
The historical information about the park is documented sporadically with information about the old railway line. There are large carved wooden animals dotted around with fun facts to keep the little ones active and are great for photo opportunities and nature trails.
There are fantastic examples of trees, shrubs, and plants. You can even have a view of the Castle Hill skyline if you stand in the right place.
Keep a close eye on the kids and dogs as they can get lost quickly in unfamiliar surroundings and the dense environment that is the other side of Beaumont Park.
It's a wonderful place to walk around even if you have mobility issues or a pushchair if you stick to the tarmac paths. The paths are wide enough to accommodate most...
Read moreI LOVE this park. It's well laid out and maintained to near perfection. Ideally situated, the many smooth, well kept pathways are cut into a natural stone cliff. From the top I was awestruck by the fantastic panoramic views, and vistas of the surrounding countryside. The park also contains several places of historic interest. From old stone quarries and railways, to ruins from more recent buildings - most notably - The Castle Hotel , built circa 1908, closed 1959, finally demolished 1968. The park is just the right size to easily contain wonderful stone grottos and water fountains and cascades, as well as a good sized children's park, immaculate lawns and garden areas - and a fabulous monkey puzzle tree and wooden statues among the many other points of interest. With room left over for bandstands and ample space for local events, bands, tea party's ect.... Yet it's not too big so you become easily lost. Perfect for nature lovers, dog walkers, family picnics / walks and lots, lots more. I could wax lyrical for a week and still not be able to mention all the activities and beautiful sights, sounds, and scents that await discovery in this...
Read moreThis park has so much to offer. It is well maintained by hard working, creative staff who produce stunning displays with unusual and interesting flowers and trees. There is the bandstand where shows have been put on in the past, I was there a few years back when they had a brilliant 40's festival of music and dance. The park has many wonderful paths for you to travel along taking you through many a different scene, in places I swear I was walking through the Jungle Book and fully expected Mowgli and Balu to float past by the fountain and waterfalls. There is a chilrdrens play area which is being extended and made more adventurous looking I noticed on my last visit. Also, a cafe run by friends of the park (I think) and not to forget the stunning views too. I would highly recommend a visit. I used to live close to the park and walked our dog regularly had to move away. I had not visited the park for a few years but recently decided to start travelling across from Saddleworth to enjoy Beaumont park to re-live the past and to...
