We are regular customers of Sons of the North and have always enjoyed good food and service. However, our visit on Sat 9th Nov was so disappointing. It was very very busy, so we completely understood that there would be a wait for our food. We received food after about 20 mins but it was completely the wrong order. So we waited for the correct order. However, after 35 mins, we checked with Luke that they hadn't forgotten us. Our orders arrived about 5 mins later and although 2 meals were good, mine was awful. I'd ordered Avocado on Sourdough with Smoked Salmon and scrambled egg. It wasn't sourdough, it was ordinary bread, there was virtually no butter on the toast and the scrambled egg was appalling! Completely overcooked and looked like a dried up crumble on the plate. I didn't send it back because they were incredibly busy and under pressure. The waitress did ask when she cleared the plates, if everything had been ok and I did tell her it was pretty awful then, but I obviously wasn't looking for a discount or I would have sent the meal back before I ate it. It wasn't until I got home that I realised there hadn't even been any avocado with my order!! I didn't notice at the time, I think because there was so much going on, people standing in groups chatting, a clearly stressed atmosphere amongst the staff and a generally far from relaxing experience. The kitchen was apparently short staffed and Luke did apologise to my husband when he paid, but at those prices (£12 for mine!!!) I would've thought Luke should have checked the food as it was being sent out. Sadly the experience has put us off and we won't be rushing back, which is a shame, because we know that is not a true reflection of Sons...

I have been wanting to visit for ages, today was the day. I was greeted with a warm smile from all staff I encountered. I had looked at the menu online, but on arrival spotted the "today's Sunday brunch special" it certainly was special - it was DELICIOUS. I had two coffee's and stayed around 2 hours reading, everyone was happy to leave me to it, just checking in occasionally without me feeling I was taking up a table.
I kept an eye on others food and everything looked amazing, full English was huge, and pancakes (3 per portion) came with jam and syrup on the side - which I prefer as sometimes they can have too much syrup.
A great spot - will definately be back - need to try those...
Read moreABSOLUTELY FANTASTIC BREAKFAST. So first time we can we had a wonderful breakfast, had to say one of the best in Huddersfield. I'd since been raving about it to all my colleagues.
However I then went back for lunch on two separate occasions and it's like a different place. So so so so disappointed I'd rather a Tesco's cafe. Genuinely one of the worst lunches I've had, it's such a different experience. So if you've only been for lunch definitely go back for breakfast.
So in a nutshell definitely go for breakfast but lunch is overpriced bland and not worth it, if the breakfast menu went all day that would be truly amazing.
Place is lovely though. I'm not one to leave a negative review either and mean this in the best possible way as...
