Loved exploring this one on Saturday 21/06/2025. Couple of holes to crawl in and have a look around in the building that I'm sure not many people have done. I did lose my torch around there or over at the bell tower witch have upset me because I've had it some time. If anyone finds it thay are well to it,but I'd like to know if you did and see your pictures of putting it to use. Liked the castle and had fun looking around. Would love to dig out the door under the tower and look around under there. Not that that is going to happen, but if anyone does have permission todo so I'd like to be involved or if anyone has seen and got pictures of under there before it got buried,could you post them so I could have a...

If you like your castles to be intimate, hidden and mostly ruined, you'll love this little gem. Not a huge amount remains but there is one intriguing tower, some impressive earthworks, part of the gatehouse and a moat. Probably best to park in Kirkoswald and walk up the road (careful, no pavement). Whilst you're in Kirkoswald, there is also a church dating from the 12th century, a bell tower on top of the hill with good views, and a series of earthworks which possibly belonged to an earlier castle in the field...

Not really what I expected. Acces through a field fool of cows. The site itself accessible only when the gates aren't locked. No information board or whatsoever. Hard to get to the actual remains of the castle due to the area being overgrown with nettles. Not actually suitable for people as due to the high overgrown you can tell where you put your foot to. Would love to see it in stage as the Bell Tower,...
