I have been here many times over the last few years. My son is mad about trains and is always happy to visit here. There is a good sized picnic area although only a couple of tables with benches, a good idea to bring a picnic blanket of you plan on sitting for a while. The trains run around the outside of the picnic area and there are occasionally steam trains running. You can ride on the trains, with a suggested donation of £1.50 per ride which can be paid by card or cash (it is done on an honesty box/card payment). Anyone under 10 must have an adult ride with them. The volunteers that run the railway are always very friendly and great with kids. An addition for this year has been a train set that kids can have a play with and control the trains themselves - it seems to have been welcomed by visitors and loved by children. Parking can be a bit tight on sunny days but I have always managed. There is occasionally a food van there although I have not seen it in a while. The trains run most Sundays (although closed over winter) and some Thursdays during...
Read moreA great little spot to spend an hour or so. There's a small grass area in the middle of the railway loop that you and the kids can relax or play on (presumably no ball games as there is a railway running around it!).
I'd estimate that there is parking for 15+ cars. There was a trailer that sold crepes, donuts and hot butties (burgers, breakfast Huns etc) parked up too, which I think is there most of the time.
The railway itself is a simple square loop with a small incline that goes through some trees and well out of sight of the little station area. It all looks very well presented and neat.
The people there (when we visited) were very friendly and happy to chat about the engines as they are volunteers, but this probably means that you get a random selection of people working there too.
There's no fixed price for riding on the train(s) too with a donation box that suggests £1 a ride so it's up to you how...
Read moreThis is an interesting place, ideal if you fancy a picnic on a nice day, or if you have young ones with you. A ride on railway, with a couple of trains, including a steam locomotive, and a large gauge tabletop railway with a few trains running. Only open on Sundays during the summer (weather permitting), to be honest we had very high expectations and really should have known better. Careful around here, it's very easy to miss and we spent 10 minutes outside someone's house in the...
